Quick Q... Is Super Mario Galaxy shorter or longer than Super Mario 64?

I just remember Mario 64 being hard and long as hell but then again I was only 7 or 8 when I played it lol.

IMHO it's a shorter game. I spent a lot of time in Super Mario 64 looking for stars whereas Super Mario Galaxy feels like it does everything but draw you a map to the star.

Dammit!!! I hope it doesn't ruin reply value once I buy it cause usually I can play Mario games over hundreds of times with the exception of the RPG Mario games (excluding Mario RPG LotSS).

I guess they made Galexy more kid friendly. Ohh well I'm still gonna buy it if I didn't get it for Christmas :)

Keeping me on one path kept me focused though. Usually freeroaming stuff drives me nuts.

The tasks they gave made it a lot harder for me to complete than in SM64.

And then they give you something special when you finish it the first time.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

The greatest compliment I can give a game is to say that I wish that it would never end. Twilight Princess gave me that feeling and so does Mario Galaxy. Damn... even with all the stars I still wish there were more. It's kind of weird... I'm planning on playing MP3 again on harder difficulty but I just can't seem to pick it up. I can't go back to a world where things actually make sense. Mario's spoiled me - it's all about fun and stuff the consequences and logic of it all.

Today I tried jumping onto my ceiling and hurt my shoulder, transitioning from the game to the real world has been hard on me too.

I'm coping by playing through as Luigi right now... I'm taking it one at a time.

Super Mario Galaxy? Wow... That game is so old now! I beat it a long, long, long time ago! I must have beaten it millions of seconds ago! Millions!

I have both logged on the Wii message board, I got SM64 for VC in the Summer, and played it for the first time (first Mario platformer i owned)

it took me pretty much exactly 30 hours to finish (and i have not yet been back to it)
Galaxy took me 28 hours to finish with Mario (same number of stars as SM64)

I would say they are pretty comparable in length.... but Galaxy i was immediately compelled to keep going with Luigi, (total time on Galaxy now 48hours) it seems a character change is motivation enough to go again.

I will also say there is a lot more work into replaying SMG, if you replay SM64 i would think it is much shorter than the first time, wheras Galaxy would be longer (so if i were to go through again i think Galaxy would probably be 15-18 hours, wheras 64 might only be 12-15).

I remember FFIX being the opposite way I LOVED the first 2 disc but the game really lost me on the third and I stopped playing right before the 4th disc(a couple years later I finally finished it)
