I think the problem with L.A. Noire is going to be they are going to have to dumb down the clues so much that they aren't going to be interesting.
The problem is they're making a detective game for everybody. That means they can't make the various tells subtle, they're going to painfully obvious so anyone can play the game. That's going to be cool for about five minutes.

I fear this too.
Hopefully, they have a way to approach this. I'm pretty sure they do, or else they wouldn't have even thought about the idea of a detective game.

I really think it's going to be a game filled with two extremes-- there will be the ones that pretty much hold a massive sign saying I'M LYING and there's going to be the people that are impossible to read because you're not supposed to be able to.
I hope they have a solution for that too but I'm guessing someone had an awesome idea for a game (and the idea is awesome), they started making it, focus testing revealed that most people couldn't get it, and they had to dumb it down if they wanted the game to be made.
If I had to guess I would guess there are 5 general tells that you simply look for. It's almost like a quick time event where you look for either the shifty eyes, touchning the nose, stutter, scratching the neck, or plain stupid story. You'll learn the tells in the first few hours of the game and then just look for those and nothing else.
On the opposite end you'll have the mob boss type people that just don't give a crap that you're simply not supposed to read.

Yeah I'm not quite sure about this either. In the trailers it looked pretty obvious, though not every time as far as I can remember.
So even if it is so simple it's not the only part of the game thankfully.
Oh and actually they don't NEED to dumb down anything about these interrogations. AFAIK you can progress further even when you accuse them of something or whatever you could do wrong. Just slower.
I have no problem with slower paced detective work and exploration. I just hope that the action doesn't revolve around shooting down waves of identikit thugs popping out of dead end hallways as always seems to happen. Go arrest this guy, oh but you have to kill 50 of his henchmen to get to him. That always ruins the immersion for me.
