Gears 3 will use the old and more of the same Unreal Engine 3?

As much as U3 will be using the U2 engine and K3 used the K2 engine (ie. Same engine with major improvements).

Here was a comparison made more than a year ago: http://www.gamesthirst.com/2010/05/25/gears-of-war-3-vs-gears-of-war-2-battle-of-the-engines/

The lighting and LOD seems to have been given a pretty big bump.

That's little improviments made by Epic from UE3 to UE3.5... but the graphics is almost the same just like Killzone 3 is only little improviments from Killzone 2.

Well I've played the demo and no its not the best looking console game multiplayer wise. I will admit it has better lighting than any FPS I've played on consoles though. Killzone 3 does look better MP. We'll see what Crysis 2 looks like in the SP. I think when this year is over we will be talking about Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3 for graphics kings. Gears of War 3 looks amazing and from what I've seen in videos already looks better than Killzone 3. Uncharted 3 will obviously raise the bar once again so I think without a doubt the top two games will be Gears 3 and UC3.

Killzone 3 does look amazing at times but also bad in certain areas. There are sections in maps that use textures that are PS2 quality. Also if you pay attention when you brutal melee a character in MP their faces are static and show no expression.  Gears of War characters have always had animated expressions even in MP. Same with Uncharted.

Gears of War 3=Uncharted 3>Uncharted 2>God of War 3>Killzone 3>Killzone 2

Rage could sneak up and surprise us all. IGN did crown it best graphics of E3 last year.

your crazy gears of war 3 doesnt look better than killzone 3 not even better than killzone 2

Btw this is multiplayer. Singleplayer looks much better, and since when do facial expressions count in graphics??

I had the game. I know what Killzone 3 looked like. When you stab a guy in the neck he should make some sort of expression besides staring blankly at you not doing anything. They obviously didn't animate the character model faces in the MP. Everything counts in graphics.

Gears of War 3 will have much better textures than KZ3. Gears has always used bumpmapping in everything they do. KZ has a lot of flat looking textures hidden by the lighting and blur.

Edit: I'm majoring in 3D modeling. I'm going to take my opinion over yours everytime because I actually know how this stuff is made. No point in responding.

Guerillas engine is far more advanced then the unreal engine. But lets look at singleplayer graphics. Did you play the MAWLR boss battle? I highly doubt Gears of war 3 will pass killzone 3 graphically.

Halo 3 you can fight two boss's each with their own AI http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/15035

Is Gears 3 using the old and more of the same Unreal Engine 3?

If yes then it will have graphics like Gears 2, Mass Effect 2/3 and Batman and a lot other titles.

Gears 3 will be using newer version of the Unreal Engine 3 and you seem to be mixing up artstyle with something else.

All Unreal Engine 3 games looks similar... I can say to you what game use UE3 just looking the game.

Mirrors Edge?

so i guess its the best looking game on the xbox, according to CVG.

so beasically the quote is meaningless

KZ2, KZ3, UC2, and GoW III all look better

Crysis 2 is more technically advanced than any of those games and lot more opened area too.

Im pretty sure crysis 2 is a linear game also.

Crysis 2 is a sandbox in a city.

I don't care for the back and fourth grpahics 'war", but while Crysis 2 is more open ended, it is not more technically advanced than Killzone 3.

What's Killzone doing that Crysis isn't?

I didn't play Mirrors Edge but looking YouTube videos now... yeah it's Unreal Engine 3.

Mirrors Edge, Borderlands and Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway look the same?

Graphics? Yeah... Art style? no.

We was talking about graphics here... no?

If you've played the game (or listened to feedback), you'd know that there's far more happening on screen in Killzone 3 (and I mean a lot). It also uses parts of the SPUs Crysis 2 just can't/won't, because it's engine was nurtured by an in-house dev who's truly taking advantage of the console.

Particle effects, textures, & amount on screen are all ahead in Killzone 3.

The particle effects on killzone 3 really are amazing...

Halo Reach has all that so what makes you think any of those won't be in Crysis 2?

The difference comes in the scope and variety of the game. Sure the graphical jump isn't big... but when you consider the amount going on in Killzone 3 vs Killzone 2, you're more than happy (and impressed) that there was even a slight bump. I expect the same sort of enhancement from Gears 2 to Gears 3 and U2 to U3. And Gears 3 seems to have more saturated colors which is an incredibly welcome change to the art-style. I agree it isn't for anything. I definitely got bored of looking at the drab, darker, washed out colours in the first two but the third looks saturated and has colours pop in the screenshots (much like the Uncharted series' off-realism colour palette).

I just not noted big changes from Killzone 2 to Killzone 3... Uncharte to Uncharted 2 show much more than that.

And no game uses Unreal Engine 2 in this generation...  all games since 2005 are using the Unreal Engine 3.

Gears 3 already uses the Unreal Engine 3.5... and Gears 3 will use the same engine with some improviments.

The art style can change a lot but the graphics not so much using the same engine.

theres far more happening in killzone3 than crysis or theres alot happening. because how could you know how impressive cyrsis is until it releases or gets more reviews.
