Looks like a whole lotta win for Sony lately.

1. They're able to obtain the ip addresses they sought for.

2. They win the court case against LG.

3. And they finally re-hack proof the PS3 again.

I'm liking all the good news lately regarding Sony and their recent issues. It puts me at ease knowing that my online experience won't be hindered by dumbass hackers  :)

2.The LG court case is still pending, they only won against LG's siezure of PS3s

3. For how long?

I find it hard to beilive that your online experiance was ever "hindered" by hackers (who likely are smarter than most of the members on this site) to any real degree.

jeez, your a very "glass is half empty" sort of guy

How can hackers hinder my online experience?

How can hackers hinder my online experience?

by opening the doors for cheat programs/cheaters - see cod:mw2

btw some hackers threatened they could "ban" every user from PSN with that PS3 ID changing tool, but I guess that was quite a misjudgment by the person who created it

But if the pirates stay on firmware 3.55 they won't be able to play online right?

The problem is that tools are out which make it completely unnecessary to update the PS3 firmware.

PSN Banned console with 3.55 can access PSN with ease...

However, games could be patched requiring a later version of the firmware to play. Or, game servers could be patched so that the player requires 3.6.

Thing is, I don't mind homebrew, or piracy (I see that it has its benefits, as well as its pitfulls), but I don't like it when it has a detrimental effect on my online play. I played 3 games of CoD4 the other day, and two of the lobbies were ruined by hackers, I know it's not a great sample, but it ruined the game for me. One of my brothers entered a game the other day, and somebody delevelled him back down to lvl 1.

So, as long as developers can lock people out of playing online through firmware checks on the server, or what-have-you, people can stick at 3.55 keep their homebrew and piracy, and it's the best of both worlds. Hell, there may even be a dual-boot option, one version of the firmware when people want to play online, and another one, for homebrew, etc.
