No just sayin' that you're cherry picking as usual. Taking into account amazing GT sales last gen in EMEAA it's no surprise that it's a beast there, but if you want a "fair" comparison of sorts then you should compare games strongest territories(where the sales are most centric) for COD/Halo/GTAIV the strongest regions are US, so it's no surprise that GT5 comes out on top.

Ps. Before I get ambushed by the PS3 rabid crowd, no I am not trying to downplay GT5 success.

But if somebody wanted to know what the best selling games of all time are in EMEAA, how else would they go about doing it?

You're saying he's cherry picking because GT5 does exceptionally well in EMEAA in comparison to the competition, but that's exactly the point he's trying to make.

Now michael-5 pointing out numerous games ethomaz overlooked is an understandable complaint.  :P

I made a list with some games in EMEAA for 15th week sales... so I'm sharing it with you.

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3) - 4,014,247
2. Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) - 3,754,740
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360) - 3,350,922
4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) - 3,329,097
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) - 3,170,188
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360) - 3,051,198
7. Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) - 2,331,366
8. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 2,223,051
9. Grand Theft Auto IV (X360) - 2,038,796
10. Halo 3 - 1,791,418
11. Halo: Reach - 1,722,879

Any other game?

GT5 is a monster in EMEAA... THE SECOND FASTEST SELLING GAMING.

Well now you can't just do it like that....bring 20th week, 50th week and lifetime to get some perspective.

Yeah I can after 5 or 35 weeks ;).

Black Ops, GT5, Reach... all these games are below 20th week.

And I guess nothing will change because GT5 will end selling 6-7 million in EMEAA.

Yeah I just got confused with you putting all those games that have been out for a year/years

That's the best selling games on consoles.

GT5 is just below Black Ops in EMEAA with 15 seeks... that's AMAZING... all other games in this generation sold less in Week 15.

EMEAA is the GT5s strongest territory a fair comparison would be with the other games similarly strong territories. All of those games experience stronger sales in America.. Besides all those games are different genres so you're comparing apples to bananas, but there isn't much to compare it to since racing genre is defined by select few games.

Ok. Show me others games who sold more than that in EMEAA... I listed the best selling games in EMEAA... GT5 just came below Black Ops PS3.

That's a fair comparison... GT5 is the second fastest selling game in EMEAA so far... that's a fact.

Wow Pokemon sucks in EMEAA.. GT5 definatly has strong sales in EMEAA, but thats 2/3rd of GT5's market. Sales in Japan are almost dead, and in Americas they are very low.

Still impressive figures for EMEAA. Out of curiosity did you omit PS2 games?

wait a second.....your omiting a lot of games!

  • GTA: San Andreas - 5,227k
  • Wii Fit Plus - 3,894k
  • FIFA 11 (PS3) - 3,351k
  • Gran Turismo 4 - 2,925k
  • Kinect Adventures! - 2,716k
  • FIFA 10 (PS3) - 2,556k
  • Wii Sports Resorts - 2,311k
  • FIFA 11 (3500 - 2,230k
  • Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - 2,168k
  • Wii Fit - 2,168k
  • Just Dance 2 - 2,079k

Just to name a few. So GT5 is actually 4th for EMEAA in the past 5 years or so (VGC data doesn't have weekly sales for older games, but I bet GTA: Vice City is above GT5 as well). Still impressive, GT4 is 9th, but then again it wasn't launched in the holiday window.

Like NotStan says, this is also for EMEAA, GT's strongest region by far, and it's still behind Call of Duty, whose strongest region is Americas.

I'm not omiting anything... I said this gen so out PS2... and Wii bundles like Wii Sports or games like Wii Fit I put out too.

And by your numbers just Wii Fit Plus sold more than GT5 in EMEAA with 15th weeks.

Wii Sports Resorts was not bundled in the first 15 weeks. It was a regular game. Remember that. If your omiting PS2, then yes GT5 is 3rd in EMEAA. However, it's interesting to see that although GT5 15 weeks sales fall in the realm of CoD, they aren't that much above FIFA 11's either.

You could technically say anything is cherry picking because no 2 comparisions are 100% fair. If you want to know what are the best selling games in EMEAA, what ethomaz did is completly fine.

However using this data and comparing GT5's success compared to games which are more popular in other regions (e.g. Call of Duty, Halo), that's not fair. This is what NotStan is pointing out because although GT5 is a killer in EMEAA, it's still nowhere nearly as big as CoD.

i.e. Just because GT5 is as strong as CoD in it's stronges region, doesn't mean it's overall sales will come close to Black Ops overall.

I think you're missing his point.  He's not trying to say that Gran Turismo is as big as Call of Duty, he's trying to say that Gran Turismo is really fucking big in EMEAA.  The only way to do that would be to list it among other games released in the region.

Look at his initial post.  It inlcudes the line:

"GT5 is a monster in EMEAA"

He says nothing about Call of Duty, Halo, or any other franchise in particular, outside of including them in his list, a list that is crucial in backing up the above statement.

Oh I get ethomaz's point and intention. It's a fair comparision. I'm only saying NotStan is taking the data as a comparision of how big of a franchise GT5 is alltogether. This is why NotStan brought up the concern.

It would be cool to see a WW list this gen for 15 weeks. I think I'll make one when WW figures come in.

Ah, I gotcha.

I agree, that'd be cool.

For a comparison, here's the EMEAA openings for the other Pokemon titles we have data for, which sadly is limited to the DS only.

Diamond/Pearl - 483k
Platinum - 319k (Added the data for the "true" week 1 and the week before in which 34k were sold pre-release date)
Heart Gold/Soul Silver - 477k
Black/White - 627k

It's starting quite well. I'd put it in the 4.5 - 5 million range for lifetime EMEAA sales (a tad shy of Diamond/Pearl)

Regarding the EMEAA sales, how high do you reckon GT5 will go? Here's the best selling games this generation in EMEAA. Multiplatform, only titles above 5 million (as GT5 will obviously reach that, and should outsell any title which hasn't yet reached it). I might be missing a multiplatform or two; i just updated an old list.

Wii Sports - 31.09 million
1. Nintendogs - 12.42 million
2. Mario Kart Wii - 11.78 million
3. Wii Play - 10.6 million
4. Brain Age - 10.55 million
5. Wii Sports Resort - 10.36 million
6. Wii Fit - 9.52 million
7. NSMB DS - 9.24 million
8. Mario Kart DS - 8.06 million
9. Wii Fit Plus - 7.91 million
10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS360) - 7.67 million
11. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Ps360) - 7.55 million
12. Fifa 11 (all platforms)- 7.33 million
13. Mario & Sonic (Wii DS) - 7.07 million
14. GTA IV (Ps360)- 6.98 million
15. Fifa 10 - 6.84 million
16. Brain Age 2 - 6.19 million
17. New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 6.14 million
18. Fifa 09 - 5.21 million
19. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Ps360)- 5.05 million
20. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - 5 million

Reaching the top 10 is almost definitely out of the question, but it might have a shot at making the top 20. I'd expect Fifa 12 to pass GT5 at the very least, and the next Call of Duty too. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to release another game that will sell 5 million in EMEAA either, but apart from that, I don't see any games that can really do it.

Of course, if it makes 7.1 million, it might make the 15th spot. (NSMB Wii will almost definitely beat GT5 in total numbers, and GTA IV will definitely get to 7.5 million, if not 8.

So somewhere between the 15th best selling and the 20th best selling game in EMEAA this generation. That's really quite nice.

Yeah, it'll probably be the highest selling HD exclusive game in EMEAA. The inevitable bundles will push it quite high up on that list.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

You are using combined sales... intersting but not fair because GT5 has the disadvantage here.
