Forums - Gaming - Why NIS kept Disgaea4 PS3 exclusive?

also why they should care...

Running a profitable business is good enough a reason?

NIS has been losing money for a while now.

Couldn't have said it better. It's easily one of the PS2's top 5 games.

I stopped console gaming after SNES and didn't again until the Wii/DS.

It's not that I don't want to play all the existing gems, but that they actually have to fight for my limited available gaming time.

Games tend to have polished UI and controls after the first one.

UI and controls are also usually the deal breaker for me regardless of how good the story or whatever could be.

With that said, I usually prefer the more recent releases where the controls are mostly smooth and UI not stupidly burried that I have to press a button 5 times per turn per attack.

A lot of RPG also suffer from the equipment UI where it does not show you the old vs new. That's also stopping me from playing, too.

Let's just say, I am a hard to please customer. LOL.

really?didnt knew this...but i think with Disgaea they easily break even or not?cant imagine that they are so high developing-costs for it...also some people overestimate this multiplat thing...for some games it help for some not...and i dare to say that the port to the 360 and shipping and stuff like that will make them lose even more money...cant imagine that a "not-sooo-big Disgaea-that always was PS exclusive" would sell over 100k WW...i mean this is not a Tekken or Final Fantasy that selling always bunch of million copies...

Last I heard, NIS was banking on D4 to turn them into profit but it's not meeting sales expection thus far.

After a few hours of combat, you start doing it by muscle memory. Read some reviews!

Equipment... well can't help you there lol.

The control hasn't change pretty much at all since the first game. There is very little change in the user interface as well, its mainly the story and additional features within the gameplay that changes.

If you've played the first game in fact, you could pick up 2 and 3 and play it blind without issue. Sure they've added some new features but the core UI and control is essentially the same. There are a few minor camera angle issues that pop up occassional but once you actual get into the game, it becomes so addictive you will hardly notice. The art for this type of game age well, especially on a handheld with small screen and both English and Japanese voice acting is superb thus satisfying both sub purist like myself and those that like the dialogue in English.

I will say again, the first game is the best in the series, there isn't a difference paid to the first game due to its age, if I came across all 3 game and play this series in success (which I pretty much did) Disgaea one would still be my top pick of the 3.

You can compare equipment btw, but not on the stat screen, you actually need to get into the item screen to compare the it, but since the new item is there anyways this is not a major issue.

Would it be worth the porting costs?

Why not? Aren't HD fans been saying porting is dirt cheap?

Because JRPG public was with PS3.
