Heavy Rain has to prove it stops people from thinking that games are for kids. You can't just declare it does when it's been out for a year and the stigma is still there.

And this applies to other games as well, just this game gets the most declaration of it, when the declariation is clearly not founded.

I don't know if that's directed towards me or not.  If so, I'm just saying that Heavy Rain was a mature title.  I didn't say it broke down walls, changed the face of the world, or became a worldwide sensation.  It's just a game that i think everyone should play, espescially those that haven't tried anything like it--that's why most of the games I picked serve as introductions to new gamers.

If that wasn't directed towards me, pretend I said "Boobs" or something.

Meh, you should really just call this a personal top 10 list.

While some games on there are pretty universal like Super Mario Bros 3 and Tetris, other ones like Sonic 2 (too hard for a lot of people), Final Fantasy 7 (not everyone enjoys RPG's and I'm not even going to get into the best or most accessible FF argument), Metal Gear Solid (again, not for everyone), or Heavy Rain (lolwut?) just aren't games everyone should play.  You love them and that's cool, but people's taste a pretty varied and it's incredibly difficult to find a game even most people would enjoy.

A better question would be what are the 10 most influential games (and leaving influential vague for a reason)?

Stop being a party pooper and list your top 10!!!!

I read it and assumed you meant that, but since you didn't mean that, the the statement is no longer directed at you. I have no beef with people who simply like the game.

But those who do act like it's some big breakthrough in gaming are  a big annoyance I have about the game. It's just a visual novel, a genre that has been around for years. Heck, even mature themes can be seen in games from as far back as the mid 80s (just on PC more often than NES), or in RPGs like the "Soulblazer" trilogy.

Yeah.  I played games like Shadowgate (Nes) and The Univited (Amiga) back in the day and I bought Indigo Prophecy  and Shadow of Destiny for the PS2, too.  Oh well, carry on.

My personal 10:

Halo:CE, one of my first multiplayer PC games, an all time favourite by far, the mods online were incredible fun and at the time, it was an amazing shooter. Must have clocked a fair few hundred hours on the multiplayer component and another 20 or so on single player.

COD4:MW, amazing game, my first 360 game too. I've absolutely loved this game, I am a fan of FPS genre but this was what has really defined it for me I guess, it's just perfectly balanced and was genuinely fun to play, multiplayer in particular. Also at the time the graphics were top notch, especially after playing my old Xbox.

Civilization 3, I haven't played anything afterwards, but this game was just awesome, turn based RTS at it's finest imo, you start off with nothing more than cavemen then get to the stage where you can ICBM the shit out of countries.

Age of Empires 1/2, awesome RTS games, extremely fun to play and the balance was fine, the resource gathering etc was interesting and the balance in the game was achieved, for me personally, one of the first finest RTS I've played.

Half Life, I remember this game since ~1999, my god I shat my pants several times during the course of it, but it was totally worth having to spend extra time changing my pants and wearing a diaper. This game is absolutely epic.

Counter Strike, started off as a mod of Half Life, I really loved it. The competitive multiplayer was something totally different, really interesting and engrossing, was my top multiplayer FPS until COD4 dethroned it.

Fable:TLS, having not been part of the hype that Peter had started, I just plunged into a random game that I've picked up for my original Xbox, I've absolutely loved it. It is innocent yet brutal at the same time, the humour is interesting and very British-y, which makes me just fall in love with this little RPG, there are areas for many improvements, but it was still a decent game that I've replayed several times.

Mass Effect 2, an immersive Sci-Fi experience, I've thought that my lack of ME1 knowledge would hamper me while playing this game, but it was easy to pick up and I've pretty much read up on the ME1 storyline, the characters are well done and the dialogue is interesting and seems genuine, definitely a game for the RPG/TPS lovers, I thought that the combat on this game was well executed. The only thing that was a real turn off was the resource mining.

Red Dead Redemption, I've kind of hated GTA IV but still completed it, this on the other hand.. The beautiful countryside and interesting towns have made this game enjoyable to ride between the different missions instead of skipping it via camp, I've loved this game and the ending was very appropriate for the game, overall I'd say it's one of my favourite recent games, and would highly recommend it.

Battlefield 2, as good as multiplayer experience gets online, it is absolutely awesome. The only reason why I'd rank COD4/CS higher than it is because I've managed to break the disk, this game is absolute class, the class balance, the vehicles, the amount of players, combat everything was well executed, at the time I've played it, it was absolutely awesome, I still remember crashing chopper full of people with them flaming me, it was a genuinely fun multiplayer game.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

There'd be Pokemon, Super Mario Bros, Tetris and Pacman, undoubtedly. After that, it's more or less opinion.

"Stop being a party pooper and list your top 10!!!!"

Even though it was meant for twesterm, I'll list something.

These are 10 essential games I think every gamer should play, not any influence I think the game had. They are just games I think really emcompass gaming. And they're listed in no particular order. Plus I'm admittedly cheating in that I'm allowing choices for those with different preferences.

* Just Dance 2/Singstar Dance/Dance Central (depending on which system you have): And don't play for score, play for the hell of it. Everything about games is defined as playing something (which cannot include a cut scene any more than setting up a board game would count as actually playing it), and making an ass of yourself is something a lot of people in the gaming community should be doing instead of taking themselves so seriously (this applies to even developers I like).

* Zelda 1/Zelda 2/Link to the Past: These games define action and exploration. Not to mention they aren't for the weak. Forget the naysayers claiming the controls in the first games are wonky. The swordfighting is very precise and responsive. Just the gameplay really makes you hone your reflexes. The third game does as well, even if not to the same degree. Now there is a reason I didn't list Ocarina here, and that is...

* Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City: These games are what exemplify exploring huge worlds in polygonal form, while just doing what you want (Ocarina has a bit too many cut scenes and side quests that would get in the way of those just wanting to try this type of game). I would have included the later games, but these two are tighter experiences, and they are great for those that like shooting or racing.

* Tetris/Bejeweled: Your choice depends on whether you like your puzzle games with fast reflexes or not. But regardless, these games are everything that is great about the genre.

* Wii Sports/Sports Champions/Kinect Sports: Sports games are often hard to get into, at least the dedicated ones. That is why these games are far better choices for those just wanting to jump in and play. The games don't have to be loaded with features. Those would just get in the way, and those demanding fetures miss the point. These are not meant to be full simulations. Those would drive away those that just want to play a game, not memorize the stats and field conditions.

* Doom: I could have recommended other FPS, but this one just puts you in the action, and you figure out how to play it soon enough. I first got a taste of this on the SNES port, and it doesn't matter if it wasn't the best version. It still kicked ass.

* Super Mario Bros 3/Super Mario World/Sonic the Hedgehog(Genesis)/Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis): These four games, whichever you chose (preferably all of them) are simply the most sublime platformers ever. The 3D games often miss the mark by making things too fast (it's not about jumping over half a dozen holes at once) or two slow (why do we need to inch across 100 virtual yards on a narrow ledge?). These games get it all done right.

BTW, there are Master System and Game Gear versions of the first two Sonic games. They are actually pretty good, just the Genesis ones are even better.

* Street Fighter II/SF II Champion Edition/SF II Hyperfighting: The game that made one-on-one fighting more popular than brawlers, and  also the most pick-up-and-play installments of the series.

* Final Fantasy VI (possibly VII as well)/Dragon Quest VI/Phantasy Star IV: While I still maintain Mystic Quest is a pretty good RPG primer, in terms of capturing the "essence" of the genre, these three games do it best for me. They have highly polished gameplay and plenty of story, without loading themselves with cut scenes (why FF VII is just listed as a possibility here).

* R-Type/Gradius/Contra: They aren't listed here just for being essential shoot-em-ups, but for being essential arcade action games in general.

* Double Dragon/Final Fight: For a different type of arcade action, these two games capture the feeling of taking on waves of bad guys with your raw muscles.

Oh, Shadowgate... it's not quite essential for me, but still awesome.

I still remember the noise the tires made when we  turning the weels lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGMaSC0F8fU

9- Super Mario 64 (N64, 1996): The reason why i never bought a PS1 and i never regreated :P The best 3D platformer of all time, no doubt about it... Galaxy was just too different to be in my top. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOFyuhIkvT4&feature=related

10- Street's of Rage 2 (Genesis, 1992): Simply the best sidescroller beatem up ever made! final fight, cadillacs and dinossaurs, and the others street's of rage looked and played like sh!t compared to this one... and the music was simply classic... i still play it on the virtual console. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRW1R-rwkjE

THE ONLY TRUE GAMER IS THE RETRO GAMER! The rest are just rich kids that buy tons of games for their's next generation consoles and dont know how to appreciate a game. Sorry about this last paragraph but is just my opinion :P
