Gears of War 3's FPS-inspired game modes can lure Halo and Call of Duty players to the third-person shooter series, reckons Kevin Unangst, senior producer at Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business.

Speaking to CVG in a recent interview, Unangst said he thinks Gears 3 is going to be "huge" in 2011.

"It is the biggest and best Gears we've done, it is our blockbuster and a huge, huge release for us," he said. 

The game's new Team Deathmatch mode is one FPS stalwart to make it over to Epic's series, having teams share a pool of lives before the inevitable 'last man standing' man hunt at the end.

"Personally I play Team Deathmatch a lot and they've got that so I'm personally quite excited," Unangst added. "I think it's going to be huge. Adding modes like that is important because there's a lot of Halo and Call of Duty players so it's another way we can bring [those] players to Gears of War."

Well Halo Reach didn't do much to Black Ops during the holidays,and I highly doubt GeoW3 will be as big as Reach.

Maybe it can lure them to try it out for a while but the real question is should be can it keep these players.

GeoW 3 will be huge, without a doubt. But it will hardly harm CoD, although I think that the next CoD won't sell as much as Black Ops. So yeah, it can lure them, but it won't stop these people from buying CoD.

Well I've tried the first two GoW games and it really wasn't my type of game.  I am more of a FPS gamer than a TPS.  However, I may rent this game to see how this turns out :).

i never liked gears for some reason, maybe the controls.

I hate Gears multiplayer. Feells slow, muddy and stuck on the ground. I like jet packs, jimping ability, all guns blazing shit... not running cover to cover.

So I doubt Gears 3 will "lure" this Halo player.

You share a pool of lives with your teammates? That will suck most of the time. When I play fps games online, the bottom 3 people on my team are utterly horrible 95% of time time, why should they take my lives? :(

Well, nowhere. But when a company says that their game can lure CoD players you could also think about the possibility that it could harm CoD's sales. This isn't a comprehension problem
