Forums - Sales - GT5 Series Almost Surpasses GT4 Series

Is this the excuse fans will use if it ends up the worst selling of the series?

Now that I look at it, though, Sony had a genius idea for once by milking their customers to make up for any potential losses in GT5 sales with GT5P sales.

I guess what would make a major difference is the fact that GT5 prologue sold tremendously well in comparison with the other "prologues", the somewhat racing starved crowd brought it up before the actual game came out. I don't think that grouping all of those together is the best of comparisons due to different demographic and a much more succesful prologue, it's like adding ODST onto the Halo 3 sales, it does look flashy but at the end of the day, doesn't make much of a comparison.

Well said.

I'm willing to bet my games collection that GT5 will not be the worst selling of the series. At the right the game is selling I expect it to reach 10 million with ease.

Interesting but I'm more interested in just the full game.

GT3 - 14.89m

GT - 10.85m

GT4 - 10.61m

GT2 - 9.37m

GT5 - 5.64m

GT5 still has 3.73m to go to not be the lowest selling GT game. That's a lot but I think it will do it. GT games have legs for days.

PD numbers as of December 2010:

GT4 11.19m

GT2 9.37m

GT5 6.37m

so, less than 3 millions since we are in March.

It is very important to go by PD numbers, as we have it undertracked here by at least 500K or more.  But, it will definitely pass GT2 with more bundles this holiday season.  And the PS3 probably getting a $50 price cut this year will help push sales, as well.

Given Prologue came out about 3 years before GT 5, was half price and had plenty of content, it can barely be called milking

Well, the other difference would be that GT5 Prologue was the only Prologue/Concept to get (1) worldwide release and (2) heavy hardware bundling.   In the only market we have any comparable data for it (ie: Japan), GT5P moved 50% of it's "sales" as a free pack-in.

I dont understand why GT5P sold so much especially in Japan. GT5 only sold 20k (physical only) more than GT5P despite having 100x more content.

That's really put things in perspective. When i was a lurker, many people were saying it was going to be bigger then Halo 3. It's only half

Not A really good comparison,  ODST was not a small portion of Halo 3 released earlier to give people a taste of whats to come in the full game.  ODST is a spin off of the main story that was released well after the original game. And in no sense had any tie ins to Halo 3.  GT5 Prologue is basically a small portion of Gran Turismo 5 released early.

Nice try but NO.

Im not saying I agree with what the OP is trying to do, but at least come up with a better anology next time.
