Forums - General - Would you go Awol?

I recently read a story about 20 Afghan students who came to the USA to study and train. The group was supposed to return to Afghanistan but three students disapeared. Later reports confirm the three went awol and are trying to stay in the US. Honestly I thought to myself if I lived in Afghanistan and came to a Western country, could I honestly head back to the hell I call a country or would I too go Awol.

Would you return to Afghanistan, or would you do everything in your power to stay in the US?

I would do everything in my power to stay in the West tbh. And as long as the people are contributing to the country positively I don't see what the problem would be, it's unbelieveable the amount of times I've seen legitimate immigrants that do abide by the countrys laws, pay taxes, live normal lives get absolutely screwed by the Home Office in UK, and probably in US too.

Would I go as far as to call Afghanistan a hell on earth? No, but it comes dangerously close to being so, if you support concept of Democracy it is probably likely that there will be some extremist posse nipping at your heels.

Yeah, I'd go see em.

yes i agree with you

Yeah definitely, but unfortunately you will find corruption everywhere. It's not like it goes away just because you are in a western nation.

They have a duty to their nation, first and foremost, as soldiers. If they were citizens, i might support their initiative to better their life

We are talking about soldiers, right?
