Forums - Sales - 3DS already most pre-ordered console in UK!

Was it really a surprise that the 3DS would do this?

OK, maybe some ignorant fanboys would have complained about it, and some may have complained about having their eyes bleed due to the 3D, but it looks like a high price tag here in the UK isn't putting consumers off...

"We're very encouraged that it's going to be a big launch," said UK sales director Andy Yates. "Our target was to get over 100,000 pre-orders -- and we're in line with that. So far, we've already beat our personal best for a console launch. With three weeks to go, we're in a great position, as pre-orders are still building.

"Retailers tell us that things are good, and they're pretty relieved to have a big launch in March; they need something of that magnitude."

Bolded area interests me, maybe sales director Andy Yates is admitting to a slowdown in console and games sales? Looks like the 3DS is coming out at the perfect time to reignite consumer interest...

Maybe this points to Nintendo releasing a Wii2 some time soon?

Anyway: Your reactions below

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

They only thought they were going to get abouit 100K pre-ordered? Are they crazy. In Japan they pretty much sold out in 24hrs. of 400K units. If nintendo had another 600K on shelves in Japan, those would have sold as well. 100K in pre-orders is nothing. In the U.S. I'm pretty sure pre-orders are well over 200K by now. It's going to be huge.

i don't know if this will do so well already some negative reviews for japan but it should have an amazing launch though

Do you have any of said negative reviews?

Not user reviews of course. People can troll games and consoles in user reviews...

And, like Nintendogamer, I'm one of those 100,000!

Interesting is that some online retailers claim to have around 1 3DS for up to 5 pre-orders, so it's a lottery if you buy it online...

That's an extreme case above, but most retailers are taking pre-orders for stock they no longer have now...

Can you source your articles next time? Also, i believe this is quite old news isn't it?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
