Oh btw, just look at this riveting Steel Diver gameplay!!!

And all that for the low price of 40 bucks

Some games, should not be judged by videos. Steel Diver may be one of them.

It's a technical simulation game, with a steep learning curve... Miyamoto compared it to Steel Battalion of all things, I'm not sure what people expect?   If you want something easy, short and fast, this isn't for you.

I have said this over again, it's the control, not the games that allowed the DS to put a beating on the PSP.

lol, no.  The best selling DS games (NSMB, Mario Kart, Pokemon) don't even meaningfully use touch interface or the microphone.

As always with Nintendo systems, it's the software that's key.

I went with established brands, but yes new stuff definitely helped DS upfront.

Brain-Age and Nintendogs were innovate software titles, that were both discounted by critics beforehand.  Iwata even mentioned Brain-Age specifically as something analysts claimed was "unsellable".  The secret to Nintendo's success is that they only treat hardware as a means to an end, it's the games that are always their prime focus.  As it should be for any true games company.

To say simply interface, and not the games themselves, drove the DS platform is factually incorrect.

I agree with that. Games and Interface come together on this. One doesn't stand out above the other.

This is Nintendo's philosophy too, they keep their hardware and software engineers under the same roof and fully integrated.  This is probably why they've managed to continually stay relevant, unlike virtually all the other big Japanese gaming companies from the early 1980s (Hudson, Sega, Taito, Namco, Irem, Konami, etc)

Yeah personally I know it isn't going to sell that well but I've always liked the older PC titles that were all about trajectory and the like.  I mean it's boring as hell for most but on my old packard bell there was nothing better than some old school golf and tanks, it was all about knowing angle degrees and your equipment.  Plus it looks like the 3D could be interesting as well especially with the diving sections.

As for another tl:dr comment, all I saw was you trying to being mocking over the full of crap claim. Yeah, sorry I'm get irritated by people who are rather hardheaded, and make absurd claims such as rebuying games I already own is backwards compatibility, cause it's not. Another example of this is the classic games collections, yes you can play old games from old consoles, still you're rebuying your games, and I still can't fit my old fangled cart or disc in there lol.

How many posts in here have you said were 'tl:dr'? This the third time? Maybe that's your problem, maybe if you actually read the posts that were responding to you, you'd learn something? Ahh but what the hell, this post is already too long for you and you've probably dropped out...

To the people who actually try to read and understand different view points: I will not stand by and watch the ngp be torn down and no one should either. There is FAR too much of that going on already and moderation needs to be done and/or mod powers need to be taken away. I mean, how many threads have we had that say ngp is DOA? And how many joke threads have been dedicated to it thus far with the intent of mocking? Damn son, we're already reaching N-Gage levels of hate

It might seem like I'm against the 3ds in here but that is incorrect. I love and will be getting one. But the 3ds goon squad needs to calm down srsly. Can't wii all just get along? Can't the NGP exist and be awesome along side the 3ds?

The 3ds will sell much more than the ngp anyway so I don't know why the ngp gives people such an itch...

Uhm I'm not attacking NGP either so why are we even having this discussion if we're on the same page here... and of course I'm not going to read a wall of text when the first few lines are outlandish claims, that's one of the basic rules of writing, if you're going to have an outlandish claim put it at the end where people already have read the rest of your opinion and you've established credibility.

Why do I not waste my time on reading those posts?  Cause it's hard enough hammering home one point let alone go through an entire post of issues and trying to hit all of them, so focus on one then move to the rest, cause I'm fairly certain once one point is finished the person in question will of course bring up his other points again, they always do, then I can read the first paragraph again... and discuss that one
