Forums - Sales - Is VGCharts accurate or not?

I often hear people who claim that VGcharts are totally inacurate.  Can this site be trusted?  Or do they only make estimations?  The new Europe data especially seems suspicious.  I wonder what you guys think.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

vgchartz is very accurate for Hardware numbers, and fairly accurate for software sales in general, but like all statistical analysis on small datasets it has issues accurately tracking particular games (especially more niche market games).

Yes, all numbers here are estimates. All number from NPD are also estimates. Weekly Japanese number from various sources are estimates. Almost all monthly sales figures you see on the net are estimates as well. None are 100% correct.

they have some retail connections , and of that and some other info they make their data, right?

VGChartz changed a lot over the last year.  There will always be people who hate sales figures that don't agree with their biases, but the numbers here agree with those posted by the NPD, Chart Track and Media Create.  Stick around for a while and watch: VGChartz compares it to the big boys including the NPD on a monthly basis and data is corrected if it is off by too much (NPD numbers are typically within 10%, sometimes very close).

The fact is that the numbers on the front of the page are pretty accurate.  Some people don't like it.  They can say what they want.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue 102,963 number is only the retail disks. The game can also be downloaded. So the real number is probably around 300 000.

You sure have balls to question the accuracy of this site when you make a statement like this.
