Awesome. Galaxy will be over 4 million by mid January. Sweetness. Another 2 million after that and it can pass Sunshine.

Depends. If you pump billions of dollars into advertising, then you get all of the money in the first few weeks and
can now go on to hype the next iteration for a year or so. On the other hand, you can do minimalist advertising and get the same sales -- well, then you've got more profit by it spreading mostly by word of mouth. So you end up with more money in the end. Oh, and that means you can have the same game on the shelf for a longer period of time at a higher price, which also means you have to produce less games to get a steady flow of income. Whereas if you only make your money in the first few weeks, you've got to pump out more and more games and more and more budget.

The real goal is to pass Halo 3, it is haft way and both will have legs. Halo will good legs, but SMG will have AMAZING legs, this should be fun to watch. I predict 10 million LTD for Halo 3 and 12 for SMG. (SMG could be much higher, but we will see)

If sales continue at the current rate, it will surpass Halo 3 in a couple of months. I don't think things will go quite as fast -- maybe it will take until 2H '08 to surpass Halo 3.
Right now SMG is outselling Halo 3 at a rate of approximately 1.2 million per month. 3 million sales would take 3 months to make up.
It will almost certainly surpass Halo 3 handily. If you look at the weekly sales, that's very clear. Both titles will slow down somewhat as the new year turns over, but it's clear that SMG, which has been in the top 5 in all three regions fairly consistently, will continue to track well above Halo 3 for a long, long time. 10m sales by the end of 2008 would require averaging about 1/3rd its current *sustained* sales rate over the year. Isn't that a foregone conclusion?
Other reason why SMG will pass Halo... Japan
it is already about 7:1 there and SMG is now starting to gain steam there, I see SMG breaking 1.5 by Q3 in Japan. Maybe 2.5 LTD. Wii base will be larger than N64's, no reason it cant pass Mario 64 there. Any every sale in Japan is just piling on Halo there... The only territory SMG might not pass Halo is US...

I think SMG will have a much larger gap in Europe than in Japan. SMG is selling fantastically in Europe, where Halo 3 won't sell all that well.

japan will help alot but in europe it might even do better have you seen its legs its hasnt had any drop offs
Very good, but still a tad slower in Japan than expected on my account.

This coming from a man with this silly phrase in his sig:
When the North America numbers come up, SMG will likely be around 3.75 million units sold as of December 22nd. This means it will need 3.25 to reach 7 million. Its current sales rate is 500k/week, but after the holidays lets assume it slows to an average of 250k/week it will take it until March to reach 7 million sales. If it slows to 150k/week, we will be 20 weeks into 2008 it breaks 7 million sales.
Either way, 7 million sales is clearly an inevitability at this point. There's no arguing against that. Chart it against New Super Mario bros and notice that it is tracking identically.
