Depends. If you pump billions of dollars into advertising, then you get all of the money in the first few weeks and
can now go on to hype the next iteration for a year or so. On the other hand, you can do minimalist advertising and get the same sales -- well, then you've got more profit by it spreading mostly by word of mouth. So you end up with more money in the end. Oh, and that means you can have the same game on the shelf for a longer period of time at a higher price, which also means you have to produce less games to get a steady flow of income. Whereas if you only make your money in the first few weeks, you've got to pump out more and more games and more and more budget.
