With a healthy stream of long awaited games that will soon be coming to the ps3 I would say that it won't be too difficult for it to beat this year's numbers. I will go on a limb and say that the ps3 should comfortably sell over 10 million consoles next year and if it doesn't then I will concede that it has failed.

Well ,seeing NPD data for NA it seems clear the X360 doesnt manage to outsell the PS3 in NA in the same amount that the PS3 is outselling it in Europe and Japan .

X360 sold 750K units in US and 59K units in Canada for a total of 809K units for November .PS3 sold 466K units in US and 51K in Canada for a total of 517K .So X360 outsold the PS3 by some 292K units in 4 weeks so some 73K units weekly .The PS3 nearly catches that with the Europe data alone even if we consider the vgchartz data as gospel (and in truth its overstimating some 360 sales as in France while undetracking PS3 in the same country so go figure ) .Add Japan and the PS3 is beating the 360 worlwide ,not by a great degree but noticeably nonetheless .Around 160K units monthly .

Wait a sec, did you just say the PS3 is undertracked in France, yet forgot to rant on an on about it being undertracked in Spain? I dont think you're the Diomedes I used to know.

even with the price cuts no one would say yes to 2007 being Sony's Christmas. The fact Sony and M$ are neck and neck is actually shows that its probable that Christmas 2008 will most likely be Sony's Christmas.

This christmas and next christmas are seperate events. So, because $ony is near 360 sales this Christmas doesn't mean jack for next Christmas. A hell of a lot can happen in a years time, and you would think that the P$3 being near the 360 after months of being beaten handidly would show this... but I guess not.

If you asked us that before the $400 version of the PS3 was announced, we would have not believed it, but since most of us were aware of the $400 version and the desire for Blu-Ray players these holidays, most aren't that surprised.

I certainly think the Bluray platyer argument is a valid one, and it easily explains the (relatively) poor sales of games on the PS3. Something similar can be said with the PSP, where it has decent hardware sales but poor software - thus people must be picking it up for teh multimedia features as well, although piracy is a problem.

Then again COD4 and AC did fairly well on the PS3, despite the much poorer performance of the big exclusives this season. Part of that could be due to the crossplatform titles recieving much more advertising and the exclusives being less popular generas. But I'd still say a bigger chunk of PS3 sales are do to Bluray than I once thought.

BluZilla is on a rampage, no question.

Sony and Nintendo are simply demolishing Microsoft right now. It's not even close. The Wii needs no defense, but the PS2 alone - an 8-year-old system, for Pete's sake - is going to outsell the Xbox 360 for 2007 by a considerable margin. Meanwhile, that magic $399/399EUR price-point is keeping PS3 sales neck and neck with the 360 - and this is before the triple A titles of 2008 hit.

LOL

You could say the exact same about the PS2 destryoing the PS3 sales. Hell, if you wanted to be a real ass you could a system thats two gamecubes taped together is demolishing the HD systems.

And since when did tying MS = demolishing MS? I'd say being neck in neck with a brand that barely beat out third last gen is anything but a rampage - especially when you only sold 6x their numbers last time around.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

Its funny how 360 fans never talk about positive Xbox sales, but negative PS3 sales. You say 70k-80k a week? So you mean it will only sell 10k in Japan, 30k in Europe and 30k in US? Really?

I dont know about that new guy, seems a little short considering titles that are coming out. But I guess we will see.

Yeap , its back , and hopefully back to stay :D

The XBox 360 had a remarkably healthy stream of long awaited games throughout 2007 and finished the year with (by far) the largest number of highly anticipated games and yet it will only pass 2006 numbers by a (somewhat) small margin ...

In 2008 not enough will change for Sony to see much of a dramatic improvement in sales ... It will have sold (roughly) 7 Million units in 2007 and will probably sell less than 8 Million units in 2008.

@ KGB29

I like all your 8 reasons for PS3 to do well in 2008 except #2. I think thats unrealistic to drop the price of the system by $300 in 2 years time, althought that would sure help sales.

The other 7 are great though. I totally agree with the point you made about Blu Ray.

Why is it that what applies to the 360, it automatically has to apply to the PS3?

The PS3 didn't have media around it's hardware malfunctioning, and there are people who still don't think Microsoft resolved all the problems. There goes a few of your conscientious purchasers.

Although they are weak, the PS3 still has 3 markets that buy the PS3, unlike the 360 (With it's biggest money-maker, North America, and now fighting the PS3 to keep 2nd place in Europe).

Also, there were a few games that were pushed back to 2008 (LittleBigPlanet, HOME, MGS4).

It took Sony a lower priced BC less PS3 to go neck in neck in sales WW with the 360. It didn't take a game but a $400 PS3. I don't care if it is the holidays. It not just the holidays for the PS3 but the 360 and Wii too so how does that explain why the PS3 is close to the 360 in WW sales when the 360 introduced a cheaper SKU (Arcade) and a SKU that has two games and is still cheaper than the PS3?

If its just the holidays then why is the PS3 the better deal WW?

I don't see how the PS3 is going to be the only one to drop after the holidays.

I'll take the case!!!

Both the 360 and PS3 will hit a wall after the holidays. The Wii, not so much.

One thing to remember here is that this is PS3's first European Christmas. Whether that is the reason behind the PAL PS3 spike in the past month remains to be known but it should be brought into the conversation.

January and February will be very telling for the PS3 and 360, particularly in the PAL regions.
