The only fiction book worth of mentioning that I've read is The Name of the Rose, which I liked very much. I prefer books about history, economy and scientific divulgation. Of these I've read Dragons of Eden and The History of Time. Currently reading Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet by Jeffrey Sachs.

I love that book. One of my all-time favorites. Too bad the movie sucked.

Yes. That book was really dense, but the little bits of script in latin were quite annoying :P

True. Quite true. They should have been translated.

I also love books based in historical facts but with some liberties taken. I've recently read many Alexandre Dumas novels (Les Trois Mousquetaires, 20 ans après, La reine Margot) and a series about the last five direct Capetian kings of France (who all died in quick succession) , Les Rois Maudits.

Signature goes here!

Just finished 'The Painted Man' and I don't really know what to think of it. I felt that a lot of the basic plot was extremely basic, the whole demons thing was kinda meh, but I ended up getting over it. I also don't like how much the book jumps, I understand Brett needs to get the backstory of his main chracters down, but it seemed like certain parts of their lives dragged on for much longer than other more interesting parts. He also doesn't have that flair with his writing that Rothfuss does, it's good, but once again, generic.

I like the characters, I like the settings for the villagers and I enjoy the fact that his not scared to get messy at some points. What I liked the most was the ward system, it's like a gameplay mechanic, they have one cool device and they have to play out the story and get through their obstacles by just using that mechanic. Smart stuff.

Overall, the book doesn't start off very well and it doesn't end very well, but it's filled with some really amazing chapters. The back stories are all interesting and the author isn't afraid to go for the gruesome result or use new ideas. The book felt like the beginning to a series, which it is and it's something people should take into account. If your going to read and enjoy this book, then your going to have to buy the sequel to fully understand and enjoy the story the authors telling. I'll be picking up the sequel, because I now feel invested into the plot, but the investment had a copule of bumps before it felt worthwhile.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I forgot to mention the books I'm about to start. Right now I've got 'The Book of Dead Days' by Marcus Sedgwick, who is a popular author of dark and moody fantasy novels. His stories aren't bloody or creepy, they are probably best described as really moody, odd and smart fantasy novels. His an interesting writer and he offers something unique to the fantasy genre, I'm looking forward to reading his book.

I've also got a copy of 'The Last of the Good Guys', which is a mafia life story in the same vain as 'The Godfather'. Starts off from when the main chracter was a kid and it details the life of him working with his family and rising in the ranks as an Italian-American gangster.

And finally I have finished reading the malazan book of the Fallen !

I have to say I was happy with the way things end after spending so much time with my Bridgeburners and Bonehunters...

This is definitly the longest serie I have ever read and was definitly worht the time I spent on it..

I m kinda itching to reread the first few books in the serie.

Coltaine and the Bridgeburners have really become legends in the last books and I kinda want to go back to the time where they were alive and remember how their life was...

I think I will wait a little for that though....

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

After finishing the Malazan Book of the Fallen (best fantasy series, you bet) I picked up The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski - short stories that The Witcher is partially based on.

Just finished the first one. Pretty good stuff! Kind of a mix between Conan and Vampire Hunter D (the novels more than the movies). I really like it.

I sure hope this thread doesn't die.

I had the chance to support a new series today at an expo, it's called The Chronicles of King Rolens Kin and I decided to buy the trilogy right on the spot and the author was happy enough to sign them all. She's an Australian author and I'd never heard of the book before, but the cover looked decent and the blurb sold me on it. I haven't started reading it yet, still got heaps of books in my backlog, but I always think it's good when people try and support smaller authors.

I also had the chance to meet Robin Hobb, she's a nice lady, though I'm not a huge fun of her work.

Just a note, but I'm really liking the trend of releasing trilogies all at once, Brent Weeks was the first time I saw it done and he was extremely successful and I've noticed that a lot of newer authors are follwing the same route. One of the worst things in the world is having to wait three to five years (sometimes much more) just for a sequel to release.

I also got to meet Tiffany Grant, the voice actor for Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion and Mike McFarland, who is well known for voicing Master Roshi and Jean Havoc. Both of them are very nice people, Tiffany sounds exactly like Asuka and Mike is just ridiculous in his range. They both signed a Neon Genesis Evangelion poster for me and I got them to sign the back of my I-Pad cover (didn't have anything else on me, didn't know they were going to be there).
