Forums - Nintendo - Wii and DS Looking to Set 1 Week Record in North America

The reason I'm saying no is the whole 1.8 million/month thing. And according to VGC they're already sitting on two mil. So either we're overtracking or Nintendo is producing more, but if that were the case, wouldn't Ninty want to tell us that?

Well someone is stockpiling. And has been for awhile. Either it was Nintendo or the retailers, but someone was doing it. Otherwise sales across August, September, October, and November would add up to 1.8 million each.

And remember that 1.8 million thing is production shipments, not actual shipments. Nintenod has yet to tell us if all those are actually shipped within the month.

Well, let's thinl about it, you don't just say that you're upping production and ban, there it is. I would say, that this is the first month where we really have the 1,8 million units produced coming in. That would be the reason for the big delivery from Nintendo, about the rest, i would guess them to be leftovers from previous months, when Nintendo would usually sell some 1-1,2 million consoles, leaving some few hundred thousand consoles, and would store them waiting for the holiday season.

Deep into the darkness pearing

Long i stood there

Wondering

Fearing

Doubting.

I am thinking that the DS will fall just shy and the Wii quite a bit shy. I think after the Sunday blitz, really only a few more retailers will have any like Walmart. I don't think Wii could manage much more than 750k next week, but crazier things have happened. DS is finally starting to hit madness level in the US, so next year could actually be the biggest here.

Anybody know the single week record for all three territories individually and as a whole?

Well here I'll do the math. I'll show you how much was sold in each month worldwide and then how many shipments were left over starting from August:

August- 1.4 million sold
Left Over- 400k

September- 900k
Left Over- 900k

October- 1.3 million
Left Over- 500k

November- 2 million
Left Over= -200k

Total Sold in Past 4 months- 5.6
Total Produced- 7.2 million
Units Left Over- 1.6 million

Someone has been stockpiling haha. That leaves 1.6 million to go with the already 1.8 million in December. So 3.4 million should be how much Wii sales in December. And that's only if that this stockpiling by either Nintendo or the retailers started in August. I only went back as far as August, as I wasn't sure when the 1.8 million a month product started. So so far in December Wii has sold 1.4 million of that 3.4 million. Leaving 2 milliom more for the next 2 weeks. And understanding that next week's sales will probably be the last of major shipments in America for Wii, it may not be that far off.

But once again that's assuming nothing else has been stockpiled before August. could be even more available for December then first thought. But looking through sales its apparent there has been some stockpiling, espeically during September.

I'm more interested in Worldwide weekly... next week DS will take the crown from PS2 for best selling single week (PS2 about 1.75 million back in 2002)

and Wii will have it's first week over 1 million. (I'm guessing around 1.3-1.4 million)

Yep the same week PS2 set the record for NA, it did worldwide as well.  Who would have though.

@ Zucas

Thx, makes much more sense now.

@zucas last post;

they produce 1.8 million per month, but they will not get all of Decembers 1.8m shipped into stores.

so December should be more like 1.6 mil + 1 mil = 2.6 mil.

although Nintendo were at 1.5m production for 2-3 months before August, yet they still didn't sell all those, so maybe more were stockpiled.

Oh your welcome.  Just trying to put it in perspective.

But I'm going to stick with you and still lean for a no on both DS and Wii, but still a possibility.  We'll just have to wait and see.

Well the majority of them will make it, as Nintendo doesn't plan to ship too many of them to America or Europe in the last week.  Most of those last shipments will go to Japan, which is right there.  So I think they'll be able to have about 95% of the 1.8 million out of there warehouses and about 95% of that 95% will be in retailers and sold before year's end.  Which I guess does fit your 1.6 million number.
