Forums - Sales - Will the XBOX 360's GTA IV Episodic Content help?

@ Sorair

LOL Yeah, that's how we'll know.

@ Zucas

I was hoping someone would play devil's advocate and say that. I do think that it is going to be a lot of mainstream buying it, and that Episodic content will only matter to the "hardcore" (I hate that word)

Regardless of the fact that its 2 or 4 exclusive episodes, its still extra that you won't be seeing on any other console for at least 6 month to a year after the 360 version. Once thats advertised, guess who is going to have the biggest crowds go out and purchase a new system to play the game on. Won't matter if you have to pay for it either.

Ya know the only people that are going to know about this extra content is the hardcore gamers, and GTA, although has a lot of hardcore gamers buying it, still is a pretty heavy headed casual title. I mean for anything to sell over 10 million units, you have to have the mainstream behind ya. So I don't think it'll have too many effects.

Well your right about it being a casual title, but will the Xbox 360 Exclusive content matter to the consumer. I think not I believe the consumers will have a choice to either back the PS3 since thats where GTA was familiar with first and the PS3 is now $400 or they can go with the Xbox 360 that is $280/$350. But those prices that I said above might not be true by the time GTAIV releases.

Microsoft might do a price cut on their 3 models: Arcade/Premium/Elite

If they advertise.

There's no way on God's green earth that Microsoft's not going to advertise this.

If the game sells an eventual 15 million like it's previous entires, would Microsoft stand to make back the $50 million purely in royalties? Obviously this number is now standing to be split between two consoles, but if this deal gives Microsoft an extra 10% of GTA4's total sales then Microsoft are looking at an extra $15 million just from initial royalties. Obviously they'll gain more from the download sales as well so chances are they've just spent the money only to end up getting it back in the long term :/.

We have to hope this game is as big as the last.

@passenger

They didnt advertise the virtue fighter 5 online.

GTAIV will sell better on the 360 in the US and better elsewhere on the ps3....I have a ps3 & 360, but I'll actually be buying it on my ps3 because I'm use to GTA games being played on my Playstations and I actually have more buddies with ps3's than 360s & Home functionality....I could change my mind by release, but I doubt it.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

@ leo-j

Yeah, you are absolutely correct. Why didn't they advertise that? But I don't know if M$ would make that same mistake with something they paid good money for. :(
