Forums - General - 2010 Oscar Prediction Thread

So the Academy Awards are next week. Yes, I have been anticipating them eagerly since last year. Yes, I have seen all 10 Best Picture Nominees and now I want to talk about it.

Best Picture- The Social Network (The King's Speech)

In a perfect world my favorite film of last year Inception would win. Alas, its not nominated for Best Director and has no chance of winning. That is okay because The Social Network, which I love, has a good enough chance. The King's Speech is the odds on favorite and its a good film but I felt it too tame, more like a play than a movie. I think (and hope) The Social Network will win but won't be surprised if its The King's Speech.

Best Director- David Fincher (Tom Hooper)

Tom Hooper won the DGA which usually correlates with Best Director but I think the Academy will give it to Fincher regardless if Social Network wins or not.

Best Actor - Colin Firth (Jesse Eisenberg)

James Franco was amazing in 127 Hours but has gained no traction during Award's Season. Colin Firth has this one locked up... unless the Academy decide to be dicks and give it to Bridges just so he'd be the second actor to win for the role in True Grit/ so he'd beat Firth 2 years in a row.

Best Actrss- Natalie Portman (Annette Bening)

Annette Bening is my personal choice but it would look weird for her to get the award with all the praise Portman has been winning, especially because Bening is one of the Academy's governors.

Best Supporting Actor- Christian Bale (John Hawkes)

This is a no brainer. I'm still pissed Andrew Garfield was not nominated.

Best Supporting Actress- Hailee Stanfield (Melissa Leo)

Um Melissa Leo basically destroyed her own campaign and Haillee Stanfield really had more of a leading role in True Grit anyways.

Best Original Screenplay- Inception (The King's Speech)

Okay I don't actually think Inception will win because the Academey apparently hates Christopher Nolan but if The King's Speech doesn't win for writing then that practically confirms The Social Network will win Best Picture.

Best Adapted Screenplay- The Social Network (True Grit)

Aron Sorkin has won nearly every award for his script. I've read it personally and its really good. But of course the Academy loves the Coens.

Best Animated Feature- Toy Story 3 (How to Train Your Dragon)

Obvious

My personal ranking of the Best Picture Nominees

1) Inception

2) The Social Network

3) 127 Hours

4) The King's Speech

5) The Kids Are Alright

6) Toy Story 3

7) The Fighter

8) True Grit (My least favorite Coen film that I've seen :( )

9) Black Swan

10) Winter's Bone

Around the Network

I mostly agree with your list of winners. It seems this years oscars will be fairly predictable. Hopefully there'll be a surprise during the night... besides Ben Stiller doing something outrageous.

I'm happy that How to train your Dragon got nominated for best original score. It was annoying that the Golden Globes snubbed it. Would be nice to see it win, though of course The Social Network will take it... >_> .

Oh and I think the Animated feature category is getting a bit pointless. I understand it's there to acknowledge the 3 best animated movies of the past year, but when you have Toy Story 3 being nominated for Best Pictures isn't it obvious that it's going to win in its own category?

Yay. I'm so glad someone did a thread about this. Predicting award winners is so fun.

Best Picture: The King's Speech

(The Academy had been waiting for a movie like this last decade, and it's finally come. The subject matter makes this movie seem very important. It's also very uplifting and has great acting. I personally enjoyed it much more than The Social Network, which I found to be greatly overrated)

Personal choice: Toy Story 3

Best Director: David Fyncher - The Social Network

(I don't think he deserves it. Arronofsky would be my choice out of the nominees, and I think the unnominated Nolan deserves it more than the guys nominated.)

Personal Choice: Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Colin Firth - The King's Speech

(Don't particularly care for the other nominees. Eisneberg was especially overrated. Firth will have an easy and deserved win.)

Personal Choice: Colin Firth - The King's Speech

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Natalie Portman - Black Swan

If she wins she'll be the most worthy winner in this category since Charlize Theron. If Bening wins, it certainly won't be for that mediocre performance she gave. She'll be as unworthy as Sandra Bullock last year.

Personal choice: Natalie Portman - Black Swan

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

He's well liked, and Bale isn't.

Personal choice: Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Helena Bonham Carter - The King's SPeech

Leo's lame, and Carter will probably be swept up in the King's Speech love (plus she's overdue). While her performance is not deserving of a win, she's awsome, so I'd be thrilled if she wins.

Personal choice: Amy Adams - The Fighter

Best Original Screenplay: The King's Speech

Personal choice: The King's Speech

Best Adapted Screenplay: The Social Network

Personal choice: Toy Story 3

Best Animated Feature Film: Toy Story 3

Personal choice: Toy Syory 3

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)

"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"

Best Picture: The King's Speech

This seems like the safest bet as it has an oscar movie written all over it. I thought the movie was pretty good too.

Personal choice: Inception (nuff said)

Best Director: David Fyncher - The Social Network

I think he deserves it as, "OMG HE MADE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE ACT WELLL"...not only that the way in which he dealt with the whole movie, drew out performances and so on was commendable.

Personal Choice: David Fyncher - The Social Network

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Colin Firth - The King's Speech

Lol easy win and deserves it completely. A amazing performance.

Personal Choice: Colin Firth - The King's Speech

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Natalie Portman - Black Swan

PLEASE PORTMAN MUST WIN. Her performance is a lifetime, legendary level performance in this movie!! I hope Bening doesn't win for that overrated movie. The last 20 minutes of Black Swan were so amazing and Portman's acting just made them super awesome, really she MUST win this {shakes everyone in thread}......and she was also Padme in Star Wars!

Personal choice: Natalie Portman - Black Swan

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

Personal choice: Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Amy Adams - The Fighter

Personal choice: Amy Adams - The Fighter

Best Original Screenplay: The King's Speech

Personal choice: The King's Speech

Bridges is nominated for Best Actor for True Grit. He won last year for Crazy Heart. The show starts 30 mins form now.
