So the Academy Awards are next week. Yes, I have been anticipating them eagerly since last year. Yes, I have seen all 10 Best Picture Nominees and now I want to talk about it.
Best Picture- The Social Network (The King's Speech)
In a perfect world my favorite film of last year Inception would win. Alas, its not nominated for Best Director and has no chance of winning. That is okay because The Social Network, which I love, has a good enough chance. The King's Speech is the odds on favorite and its a good film but I felt it too tame, more like a play than a movie. I think (and hope) The Social Network will win but won't be surprised if its The King's Speech.
Best Director- David Fincher (Tom Hooper)
Tom Hooper won the DGA which usually correlates with Best Director but I think the Academy will give it to Fincher regardless if Social Network wins or not.
Best Actor - Colin Firth (Jesse Eisenberg)
James Franco was amazing in 127 Hours but has gained no traction during Award's Season. Colin Firth has this one locked up... unless the Academy decide to be dicks and give it to Bridges just so he'd be the second actor to win for the role in True Grit/ so he'd beat Firth 2 years in a row.
Best Actrss- Natalie Portman (Annette Bening)
Annette Bening is my personal choice but it would look weird for her to get the award with all the praise Portman has been winning, especially because Bening is one of the Academy's governors.
Best Supporting Actor- Christian Bale (John Hawkes)
This is a no brainer. I'm still pissed Andrew Garfield was not nominated.
Best Supporting Actress- Hailee Stanfield (Melissa Leo)
Um Melissa Leo basically destroyed her own campaign and Haillee Stanfield really had more of a leading role in True Grit anyways.
Best Original Screenplay- Inception (The King's Speech)
Okay I don't actually think Inception will win because the Academey apparently hates Christopher Nolan but if The King's Speech doesn't win for writing then that practically confirms The Social Network will win Best Picture.
Best Adapted Screenplay- The Social Network (True Grit)
Aron Sorkin has won nearly every award for his script. I've read it personally and its really good. But of course the Academy loves the Coens.
Best Animated Feature- Toy Story 3 (How to Train Your Dragon)
Obvious
My personal ranking of the Best Picture Nominees
