Forums - General - I got a call for a job but now I'm not sure if the person is interested

I don't know what country you're from and I don't know if this counts for hourly jobs, but with salary jobs in America, if they give you an offer and you accept it and then they take it away or try to change it without your consent they can get in deep shit.

Only if you've both signed a contract.

As for customer is always right. When I worked at Real Canadian Superstore I was taught that our policies and such always trumped customer. If your customer wants you to do something that isn't inline with the companies policies then its a no go.

I once had a customer screaming and cussing at me because I would not match a price. The guy didn't have a reciept or flyer from another store. He wanted me to call them up and match their price. I consulted my super visor and they said no. I had many times when customers were not right. Like coming in a day before a sale and wanting the sale price. I of course told them to come back the next day and they got enraged.

Fact is in retail you need to do as much as you can to keep customers happy, but these days the customer is not always right. We do not cut corners or give customers special treatment.

I know in the resteraunt buisness they are also not following the customer is always right. I went into an all you can eat resteraunt with my family. We arrived at 2 and lunch was till 3, we finished eating and were getting up to leave and it was 3:15. The resteraunt asked us to pay for dinner because dinner started at 3. My mom got all upset and said that the customer was always right, the manager laughed at us, my mom then said she would never come back and the manager said "Okay see yah". He was a dick

But fact is in modern times , companies don't often go out of their way just because a consumer wants something.

Uhm, the resteraunt was wrong in that situation.  Things like that are based on when you order, not when you pay.  No offense, but your mom is just a sucker.

Well... this got derailed quite quickly.

And pardon me for being completely ignorant, but what kind of pointers would you need for an interview for a gas station attendant?  I'm totally not trying to be condescending but wouldn't the basic requirements be 1) be alive, 2) don't be offensive to the customers, and 3) don't steal shit?

With hourly jobs they get away with that by being deceptive. Just say "they'll call you," even after an interview, leaving them free to drop or change the matter as they will. Happened to me with McDonalds. I thought i had that...
