Forums - Sales - Wii dethrones PS3 from the top seller spot in Portugal

Just to contextualize, Sony had once a 90% market share in Portugal making justice to the "Sonyland" epithet. Other data of interest show that Portugal showed in 2010 a healthy growth in the market of video games following an already excellent year of 2009.

Gfk reported a 17,4% growth in 2009 to a total value of 184.000.000€ and the preliminary data shows that 2010 followed that tendency.

So, market share numbers:

Nintendo Wii: 25,4% ( 375.000 units) growth of 52,2%

PS3: 24,3% ( -359.000 units) growth of 11%

Xbox360: no data on the article besides the info that though it's the console with the smallest installed base it had a notable growth of 43% last year. And that Kinect should give it some momentum.

Nunca pensei ver este dia chegar :D

Never thought see this day coming... Im Portuguese and over here Sony dominated big time... NO MORE!

Wonder what markets are still left for nintendo to top. Even in the decline stages, they are total marketshare holders in many key areas. What is left?

Well small markets as a whole account for something big, but I wonder the risk vs reward for those market for a company like nintendo to really focus on. For some reason I don't think there is that much reward in Asia, but Finland, Brazil and Argentina should be opportunities for Nintendo.

Maybe focus on Asia, when they have console that is $159 or $99 USD.

In Fact they are Losing on Finland for Xbox/Ps3 , i think Brazil and México are also Xbox 360 countries aswell PS3 (Brazil) , Mexico is ALOT Xbox i cant see Wii beating Xbox there...

As for Asia athats PlayStation Countries... Nintendo cant do much against PS3 , only next gen.

So True but in facts they did it in Spain and Portugal so its safe to say that Nintendo took Iberia big time this Gen with DS being the best selling system ever over Here (iberia) Beating Ps3 old Record.

Well they could try to attack 10% or 20% market share barrier they have in Poland ;)
