Forums - Nintendo - Wii version(s) of Dragon Quest being made, other DQ info

a DQVII remake is a must, the PSX, PS2 and DS all had at least one remake before getting the next mainline game.

I actually imported a US copy of it late last year, I just haven't got round to it.  If a full remake is announced, I will buy the game again.

PS1 actually got it's remake afterward.  Of course that was when the remakes were also done by the mainline team reusing their new engine, and that tradition actually started on SNES...

  • Dragon Quest V (SNES) Chunsoft -> Dragon Quest I & II (SNES) Chunsoft
  • Dragon Quest VI (SNES) Heartbeat -> Dragon Quest III (SNES) Heartbeat
  • Dragon Quest VII (PS1) Heartbeat/Arte Piazza -> Dragon Quest IV (PS1) Heartbeat/Arte Piazza

...starting with PS2, because of rising development costs and continual delays, Enix decided to split focus and use remakes as a lead in to mainline Dragon Quests.  They were also done by different teams, and the remakes were far less technologically advanced...

  • Dragon Quest V (PS2) Arte Piazza/Matrix -> Dragon Quest VIII (PS2) Level 5
  • Dragon Quest IV/V/VI (DS) Arte Piazza/Matrix -> Dragon Quest IX (DS) Level 5

...given all that, my guess is we'll see another DQ remake (VII being next in line) on Wii (or 3DS, lololol) proceed DQX.  And given Genius Sonority's connection to that particular game, it'd make sense that they developed it (probably with 8ing, who they worked on DQ Swords with, and who also remade DQM Battle Road for Wii).  Level 5 is probably doing DQX.

I also think we'll see DQI-VI make it to the Virtual Console.  Square Enix made big tie-in announcements for the Final Fantasy series (I-VI) and Romancing SaGa series (1-3) on Virtual Console, makes sense they'd do the same for Dragon Quest.

DQM Battle Road Victory was an enhanced arcade port, so not made specifically for the Wii, it was just an afterthought.

It's not really just a port, 8ing developed a fairly substantial 1p RPG mode for the game, complete with a new huge city to explore, NPCs, quests, tons of collectibles, new enemies, new cards, etc.  It's basically like a new Battle Road title, more like a sequel than a port.

Well, hopefully it'll be DQVIII as well as the obvious DQX

Or it could be a spin-off

Or a translation error

BUT, I hope it's the first one

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Don't be too excited about the "Versions" thing... it could be DQX and some random spinoff for all we know...

It might also just be a translating mistake.

He might have simply meant that they were working on a Wii version of DQ (which would be DQX).

But if true, that's an awesome news.

There's already been 2 DQ games on Wii being Swords and Monsters.  So versions is probably true, maybe a new DQ swords or monsters.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

And the obvious questions they forgot;...When may we expect some news about DQX?

I reckon E3. If not there will be trouble

Wait... in the Games Radar link, they don't even mention the Wii in the interview.

EDIT: Nevermind.  Didn't notice there were two pages... lol

Isn't there an IGN interview going up soon?  Not that I expect them to do much better, but it'd be nice if someone could get some more info out of Horii.

I'm starting to think Slime Morimori 3DS might have a decent shot of happening though...

I'm excited to hear the Wii getting the Dragon Quest series, but where did it say that in the interview?  What did I miss?
