Yes, all the users that just wanted what they paid for deserve all that.
Congratz for dodging all my points and continueing to defend Sony's horrid business practices. I hope they pay well :)

2. Are those part of the PS3? Or part of the PSN network aka not actually features on the console itself? 3. Are you really blaming Geohot for that, really? Geohot made the tiniest little progress in a hack that not even the whole PS3 population could of taken advantage of. Guess what? :o Had they just left him alone he probably would have hit a brickwall(Which he did!!) and then given up(Which he did!!), but no, they removed the only thing that was preventing 0verflow from hacking the console... Great job Sony! ... Back to my point... Sony was dumping money into continually updating the hypervisor to be comaptible with the newer firmware updates. What a better way to get rid of the feature then to just blame it on the pirates... 3.5. So what if only 1% cared about the Linux capabilities? How are their feelings any less relevant then the rest of ours? They paid for the console just like you and I... They deserve to get what was promised for them Heck, they were lied to by Sony a couple of weeks before they were raped... Never have I used Linux on the PS3 and I likely won't, but I paid for the ability to have it, and play games, and go on PSN. |
You make it sound as if George Hotz is some sort of saint.

Everyone had a choice to make, no one forced you to download the firmware update that removed linux. No one.

It was a feature of the Playstation that I was promised when I bought the PS3. As was being able to play games and go on PSN.And fyi, I didn't
Quick justify Sony's comments then less then 4 weeks later breaking them!

Do you actually believe that if Sony would have left the other OS that Geohotz would have "given up"

The fact that he indeed gave up on hacking the PS3 just to re-emerge once 0verflow figured it all out points to yes.

How do you know he didn't sit at his computer everynight trying his heart out? crying into his hot chocolate praying that one day he might, it was too much of a challenge for him to give up, Sony knew he was onto something with the other OS and got rid of it fast, and for good reasons
the amount of corporate dick riding going on in the comment section of the psblog is hilarious.
Guys... Sony isn't doing you any favours. It just so happens that maintaining the integrity of their online platform and discouraging piracy is in their best interest. Don't think for a second that Sony wouldn't do something that's horrible for gamers and consumers given the opportunity, like they have done in the past. It just so happens that the interests of normal online ps3 gamers and sony align in this case.

Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions. Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws. ======================================================================================== Finally a statement where they separate both things, because hacking a system that you own is not illegal, it violates the agreement invalidating the warranty (which is a well known risk and if someone using a system hack doesn't know the risk, he deserves a bricked system) but it's not illegal... The illegal part is the violation of copyright laws...

SONY playstation contains Proprietary software were it does not permit changes to the souce code or redistribution.
Hacking SONY software is against many laws including international ones. I think it may come in the copyright laws .
Hacking SONY hardware is an completly different story. You want to turn your PS3 into an gameboy go ahead because you bought it you can do what ever your want to it. But not the software.
Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong
