The fact that he indeed gave up on hacking the PS3 just to re-emerge once 0verflow figured it all out points to yes.

How do you know he didn't sit at his computer everynight trying his heart out? crying into his hot chocolate praying that one day he might, it was too much of a challenge for him to give up, Sony knew he was onto something with the other OS and got rid of it fast, and for good reasons
