Forums - Nintendo - Analyst believes Wii capable of selling 3.6 million consoles a month

WEWdeadeye said:
I said it was irrelevant, if you would read my first post, I said it wasnt reflective of the Nation. You didn't need to tell me something that I already pointed out having knowledge of. Also, this whole post is just speculation, the analyst is speculating, and so are you. Just because it is your opinion doesn't make it any more valid than others, so don't go tell me my opinion means nothing, when yours is probably less credible due to your HUGE Wii bias. Clearly you missed the point.

My specualtion at least has evidence of Wii demand, yours has almost nothing, just your fanboy hopes

Also you never said it wasn't reflective of the nation, this is what you said:

The only time I haven't been able to walk into a store and buy a Wii is this past month and a half, and I live in California. The Wii hasn't been completely selling out all year, but it has been coming very close. Not Wii bashing, so don't jump on me and assume I think it is a fad and what not because my opinion differs from yours, OK?!?1 I plan on getting a Wii next year when it has a few more games I am interested in.

Nothing about it being irrelevant or not reflective of the nation, any edits you made afterward is irrelevant you are wrong : P

Hmmm, Avinash, now that I reread that, i realized i forgot to add that back in my original post.  I wondered why you would call me out on that when I thought I clearly stated it meant nothing.  Ok ok, I will go ahead and call MY BAD on this one.  But next time Avinash, you will not be so lucky!!!  Muahah

Btw, I'm not a fanboy at all, I grew up on Nintendo, and owned every console since the SNES.  If anything I am a Ninty fanboy, just haven't gotten around to getting the Wii yet.  I just don't see how it could sell that much for an extended period of time.  My common sense just tells me otherwise, no matter what demand might be right now.  That is a huge increase, doubling the production...I just don't see that many more people buying it every month excluding maybe the holiday months.  That's just me.

If there are some places where there are shortages then surely that shows demand is not as high as to sell 3.6 million a month, by all means correct me if i'm wrong avinash as you seem to be the all knower when it comes to supply

What are you talking about, if there are shortages then there is demand, until everywhere has satiated demand then there is still demand, if in some backwater area there is no demand, but in a huge city there is, which do you think is going to matter more

And in my area they have been sold out consistently for some time, with people going in to try and find a Wii daily, what is your point?

when retailers that i visit frequently aren't out of stock and most people in my year at college (100+ in the year) favour the 360 i cant see how it could do 3.6 million a month, and surely if the ps3 and 360 were the same price then sales would be level between the 3 and sales at more even levels. Also @ avinash - i dont have to define the norm, i said "what you perceive as the norm"

it seems to me that stock shortages are mainly location based, not uniform, my point being that just because your area doesn't have any it doesn't mean its the same the whole world over, 3.6 million wii's may mean all the people in your area get one, then there is no one left to sell too

Dude, let me try and explain this in the simplest way I can, if you have two stores one in one city and one in another, both recieve 100 Wii's, yet one city has a demand of 1000 and the other of 10, then there will still be 90 Wii's on the shelf, but 900 people who do not have a Wii, merely because there is no supply in their area, sure your area may not have a lot of Wii demand, but there are 330 millio npeople in the US, 120 million in Japan, like 400 Million in Europe and so on and so on, the fact that your one area may have saitiated demand, means nothing if demand is greater than supply in other areas

If you think that only 10 million of those billion people want a Wii then I suggest you rethink

most people in your year of college favoring the 360 doesn't really have much to do with the global demand of the wii across all demographics. if the 360 wasn't the most played system in college that would be weird since most college gamers are probably gonna be playing the hardcore violent shooting games which the 360 focuses on and the wii hardly has anything like that yet. that said, for me shortly after college when the wii came out i only had one friend who had a 360 but several friends who had just finished college in the past year or two who got a wii and goodlord did we play wii sports nonstop last winter! i haven't gamed that much since the glorious days of goldeneye.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million
