Forums - Sales Discussion - Nippon Ichi Stock Surges on High Disgaea Hopes

On February 3, Nippon Ichi's stock price was ¥37,500.
By February 9, the price had climbed to ¥65,000.

What's up? According to Keizai News, the surge is due to high

expectations for Disgaea 4, which hits PS3 on February 24.

Due in part to the greatly expanded PS3 userbase, investors

apparently believe Disgaea 4 will sell more than twice as

many units as Disgaea 3.Such high sales would, of course,

translate to high profits.

Disgaea 3 sold somewhere around the 100,000 mark,

so to sell double Disgaea 4 would have to sell 200,000 units.

This would make it the top selling Disgaea game ever --

even more than the 150,000 or so of PlayStation 2's Disgaea 2.

So what do you guys think? Is 200k possible?

I don't see the game doing massively different than the series' norm just because the userbase has increased.  I hope all these people putting their money on that bet have more to go off of than that, like perhaps NIS putting a larger media blitz behind this particular game.

Looks like my OP is completely fucked up- interesting.

Well this is just a mess- but you get the point. Plus theres a link anyway.

Personally I have high hopes for this game- NIS needs a hit.

I wish the COMG preorders were more accurate so we could get a better read on this.

It seems to me like the sales of NIS games are going down, so the surge is like a prelude to a train wreck to me.

Disgaea 4 is looking good.  It would be rather interesting if it can do 200k.  I think it will do better than Disgaea 3, but not double.

They can count of me buying a copy of the game once it comes to America.

Prolly cherry picking. Just because the game releasing when the stock surge doesn't mean it's the cause (or the only cause). It's not like NIS only have 1 game, lol.

First shipment is supposedly 90K- so beating disgaea 3 is pretty much a given

I think twice the sales of Disgaea 3 is definitely doable. Disgaea 3 itself should have done more than it did; the combination of a fragmented userbase and poor presentation hindered it's performance. This newest installment improves on the latter problem, and time has played a big part in remedying the former. I suppose we'll have a better idea once it releases.
