There are 3 things that can make me buy a console or handheld,

a wide broadbased library of games I"m interested in

a real shining force

and 3 High quality collections of real pinball tables,

hopefully they'll be adding a new table or 2 over the xbox/ps3 release

out of all games 3d should really help out with judging depth in pinball properly,

plus farsights pinball simulation is much much better than  zen's pinball simulator, HD pinball fans should be picking up the williams collection, not to mention the use of real pinball tables designed by the best in the world vs zen's data east tables quality

Sweet! I love these pinball games on the Wii, I would certainly consider buying them again on the 3DS.

The only platform that might be better is iPad, just for the portrait screen orientation. Portrait kicks ass for pinball and vertical scrolling shmups, but existing pinball sims on iOS don't hold a candle to Farsight's work.

but 3d might give the advantage of depth perception, which is crucial in proper pinball play, though vertical orientation is also nice  for pins.

anyway I'm hoping they'll add a few of williams fantastic mid-80's tables like high speed ,black knight 2k,  tomcat, as well as a few of their older tables like travel time,

but ofcourse it is better, williams and gottlieb were the best in the world of pinball manufacturers, tables on anything on the ipad, or anything that doesn't use real tables can't compete as they just come off as haphazardly designed

I can't really agree on the importance of depth perception. 3D is nice for immersion, but even the most extravagant pinball tables are basically a 2D design. But the 3DS's clickable buttons are another advantage. Tapping the screen just can't be the same.

Here's hoping Farisight can bring us some new pinball tables for this generation. I want Bally Hall of Fame for Twilight Zone alone.

Unless they crunch the whole board to just the top screen, the entire game couldn't be in 3D anyways.

I assume they'll offer the same moving camera as in the previous versions of the game, which would cram everything into the top screen. It's a decent camera, and I honestly prefer it to that jarring gap between DS screens, though I'd still rather have a proper portrait view.

The bottom screen is suitable for displaying scores and special modes.

I'm on the opposite end: I'll take the (admittedly unfortunate) gap between the screens in exchange for seeing the entire board.  But I'm probably not going to get what I want!

even if it is 2d it is viewed at an oblique angle, vertical angle view is awful for pinball, regardless of it causing an advantage or not I can't wait for more pinball (plus it would probably make a world of difference for black hole, hoping for another gottlieb  collection as well preferably including the nintendo themed tables)
your second point, by the time twilight zone came out bally pinball was already part of williams, so technically it would be on a williams collection anyway. though I am annoyed with how unlikely it is for licensed tables to appear on a collection, adams family, twilight zone, and many of williams '90 licensed tables are fantastic (ironic) plus how prone they were to damage (nothing like a quarter pound ball smacking into things), it is a shame they aren't making more of these collections,

frankly if farsight released 2 collections a year I wouldn't complain,
