Looks like they have a double standard for banning games.

Not exactly.
First of all, Australia bans a lot of games (that then have censored versions released with less gore or other alterations). It does mean a fair bit to know that it is rated MA in Aus as opposed to being refused classification.
Secondly, there is only a vague correlation between the ratings across countries, it is not fair to say "whatever is M17 in the States, it's always most likely gonna be MA15 in Australia" American ratings pretty much ignore violence, but crack down very strongly on Coarse language and sex. European (particularly outside of the UK) consider violence to be deserving of a higher rating and dont care about sex, nudity or bad language. Australia is mid way between the two. |
OMFG THEY DO NOT! manhunt and manhunt 2 is like the only game thats been banned here (i acualy brought manhunt from major retailers before it got banned but the disc is fuked so it doesnt work anymore :( ). and im pretty sure they both got banned in UK also and probly few other countrys
bully was also "banned" but it only got banned for awhile then a new version came out called "Canis Canem Edit" i kno.. random but its stupid cause probly the only reason they banned it cause it was called "bully" and being morons like they are they were probly like "OH DERP the game is called bully DERP u probly go around school bullying kids HURP DERP and look! its made buy rockstar! same ppl who made Manhunt! lets ban it! before people think bullying in a video game is fun so they do it in real life just like how killing in video game = fun so they do it real life! herp derp"........and thats probly how it all went down :)
and yes left for dead did get its violence reduced cause they got a problem with zombie games...even tho zombie movies are no problem >.>
im not supprised duke nukem forever didnt get banned...i mean heavy rain had boobs ass and sex and it had no problem going through unsensord

Actually, very few games actually get banned in Australia. It's maybe one or two a year, at most.
What actually usually happens is that games are "toned down" just barely enough to scrape through with MA15 , before ever being submitted to the classification board.
@ Chevinator123 and im pretty sure they both got banned in UK
Manhunt was never banned in the UK, and Manhunt 2 was refused a BBFC certificate, but later passed by video appeal board.

Did they supply a toned down version specifically for the Australian ratings board? Otherwise this is weird.
