And I wouldn't be hyped at all if it was anything like that. L.A. Noire has an open world, but it's a narrative driven one. There isn't a bunch of things you can do on the sideline, it's just a world you can explore. It's there mainly as a backdrop for the story, with almost no side missions. There'll be a few, but they'll be few and far between.
The meat of the game is in the detective work, where you interrogate witnesses, suspects, etc., and you investigate crime scenes to find evidence. It's all about solving the crimes.
The game started out as a PS3 exclusive and Sony was paying for the development. I don't know how, but somehow it ended up with Rockstar as the publisher after some time. L.A. Noire is no more a Rockstar game then Starcraft II is an Activision game.

Well, you can be hyped for this game. There isn't a law that says you can't! To me though, it looks identical to the stuff Rockstar has made over the years and I've been burned enough times by their hype machine to be skeptical.
And yes, I'm pretty sure this is a Rockstar game... But we seem to be using different definitions of what makes a company’s game a company’s game so whateva. Also, it just has that overhyped feel to it… I can FEEL it. And rockstar has really shifted into gear. I mean, it took like a month before RDR launched for people to overwhelmingly sign up but here we have it at only a month and a half! Rockstar is outdoing themselves this time…
