In a reader poll in the latest issue of game mag Famitsu, 76.2 percent of Japanese gamers stated that they wanted the NGP. Only 7.9 percent stated they did not want it, while 15.9 percent were undecided.

Design-wise, 22.6 percent said they really dug the NGP's looks, while 50.5 percent said they liked it. Twenty-three percent said they didn't really like it, and 3.9 percent said they didn't like it at all.

When asked about pricing, only 1.5 percent thought it will cost less than ¥ 15,000 (US$182), 3.6 percent thought it will cost less than ¥20,000 ($242), 17 percent thought it will cost less than ¥25,000 ($303) and 42.5 percent thought it will cost less than ¥30,000 or $363.

For colors that Famitsu readers want, white was the most popular, followed by blue, red, silver and green. But what games did they list when asked what they wanted to play on the NGP?

Monster Hunter, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Tales series and Kingdom Hearts. Sony's handheld might have changed, but Japan's gaming habits haven't.

They seem to be almost as excited by NGP as I'm (as you can see from the number of threads I create about it) but some of them are pretty delusional when it comes to pricing. Also it's kinda funny they want to use all that graphic power and new features to play same games as on psp ;)

Considering how little we know about the gaming line-up as of now, this is a great figure.

I desire a NGP, looks sexy as hell. I won't be buying one though!

I' m shocked about this. So shocked that I actually think there's something wrong with the methodology they used to make this poll.

What is the meaning of "want" in that poll, considering japanese culture?

I do want a Porsche, a Dodge Viper and a Ferrari. If you ask me if I want a Camaro, I might even say "yes, it's a nice car". The truth is, though, I would never buy it. Nor the Camaro (even if I could) nor the Ferrari (I just can't).

I think It's obvious they all want a NGP but how many sold will come down to price.

Maybe a slow seller at first but sales pick up over the years with price drops and revisions.

Same with 3Ds.

The public doesn't know what they want.

Out of that list, only monster hunter is a true system seller, all the other titles while having great a chance to beat 1~1.5M are more front loaded titles and less desired.

If you notice the most wanted weekly list from famitsu and the actual sales from those games when they release, you'll see that things don't add up. Just take a look at FFXIII sales on Japan. That game was 2 years in Famitsu top 10 most wanted titles.

Dragon Quest X is there on the top positions (2nd I think?) although I really doubt the game can break even 3 million due to the Wii's situation on Japan.

I was going to comment on the fact that this isn't accurate discription of the whole market (like the guy above me), but the op did state Famitsu readers unlike some of the past threads that claimed it would reflect the whole market. With that said, I am hyped as well, but I need the price to be low this time around, I don't think I can accept anything that isn't $199-249.99. With that said, consider me down in purchase intent. Speaking of which, now I own two psps!

What's so hard to believe, the PSP has had a renassiance in Japan, it has arguably been the best supported machine there for awhile, and it has a game almost on par with Pokemanz.  The PSP is riding high in Japan.
