Forums - Nintendo - A complete Wii drought well into 2008 for Australia - stocks run dry

While this is understandable due to supply constraints, the game delays we are forced to endure are beyond acceptable. We get royally screwed on game release dates. Waits of up to and over 6 months after the US and Japan for games are quite common. We haven`t even got the first Wii Trauma Center down under.

Owner of Wii, DS and 360, planning on getting a PS3 when it's cheaper. Supporter of all consoles.

I feel for the Aussies, but its not intentional, they just don't have the Wiis to ship, its going to be a dry Jan.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I don't think this is a special problem to Nintendo Aus. They're just more open about this than other local subsidies. As far as Nintendo is concerned, Christmas is over now. The rest of this year's prodution will go to Japan. At least that's my guess. In any way, there was NO stockpile and I'm kind of expecting some brothers and sisters on this website to start eating crow now...?

I don't think it will take months before supply shows up again in the West though. 1st week of January would make sense.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Yep there are no wii's left in Western Australia, I have called every store in Perth that would sell them but none have stock. I have had a wii since launcg, but my sister wants one now and she cant find one .

I'm sure that how the business work. They easily double their production and just after that they cut the price with over stock. Genius! I think that Nintendo know what they are doing and even if they don't, I don't think that those kind of idea are susceptible to cross their mind...

Nice attitude you have there. Some of us like to discuss sales and production on this sales site, rather than just kick back and assume the industry makes all the right decisions, which it clearly doesn't.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't increase production by 10-40% (not the 'doubling' you pulled out of your ass) as soon as they can. They can easily cut price by $50 if they have to move a surplus and quickly make that lost profit back with peripherals and software. Heck, if the new buyer just picks up LoZ:TP and SMG, that probably earns Nintendo back that $50.

I was not trying to be rude there, but your post was way too much simplicist to how to manage the gaming industry. It's not that simple to increase that much of your production and just assume that you cut your price after... and I'm pretty sure that Nintendo know that they need more console on the shelves and they do all the things they can do to resolve this problem.

In Australia I'm honestly seeing like 3 Wii commercials on TV EVERY NIGHT! And yet everywhere its sold out! And its not Zelda or Mario commercials, its Wii Sports!

NINTENDO AUSTRALIA YOU ARE CRUEL!!!

Prediction:

The PS2 & PS3 will outsell the Wii in 2008.

Lifetime sales of PS3 in Japan will be at least 8 million consoles.

Hehehehe.

Have a look in at JB-Hifi if you're desperate. I popped into the store at Hornsby today and they had quite a few in stock, although I don't know how long that'll last. Most of the other retailers I've been to also have a few lying around, but you've got to be quick.

very good. Refocus on core markets. I think Nintendo will be working hard on surpassing X360 in US. So all units will go there.

Well Nintendo "pre shipped" as far as I understood. They just took the Airplane instead of the ship. That saves 10-15 days to get it to retail. And it leaves a big whole after you stop. I would guess the 2 weeks after Christmas will be near death in the US, the next shipments should come in begin of Januarry.
