Nintendo : No More Wii For Australia Until Next Year

According to Nintendo Australia, there will be no more Wii video game console shipments to Australia until somewhere in the year 2008. Right now, the Kangaroo continent is extremely low in Nintendo Wii console units and once the retailers had sold them out, the Australians might have to wait for several months before they will get a new Nintendo Wii shipment.

Most retailers in Australia no longer have any Nintendo Wii left, and those who still have the console units in stock are expecting to be out of stock before the Christmas came. Myer, one of Australia’s biggest department stores chain said that the Nintendo Wii units are selling like hot cakes.

Heather Murphy, Nintendo of Australia’s Public Relations Coordinator in an interview said : ” the Wii and its smaller cousin, the Nintendo DS have become victims of their own success. We are continually putting more and more Wii systems into the pipeline, but they all sell through almost instantly. Due to the high demand for both products, come Christmas time we may not be able to satisfy all consumer demand. ”

in aus, it'll probably sell 100,000 in the first 6 months of 2008 (if stocked) .. why on earth can't they support that much? .. that is like 4,000 a week.. i really don't think that is good enough tbh

Nintendo is working feverishly to offset these worldwide production problems.

When they figure it out, sales will get even more sickening...to the tune of 60 million sold by the end of 2008.

They do not want to disappoint customers and miss out on all this opportunity.

Production WILL increase but it's gonna take a little time to figure out.

Nintendo NEVER skimps or shortcuts on quality control. And they don't waste resources.

Increasing production without sacrificing quality or wasting unnecessary money is their mission right now as it has been for months.

I feel for my Australian brothers & sisters down there. Hopefully stock will come soon.

1.8 million is not NEARLY enough. By far.

I don't understand why Nintendo treats an entire continent completely unfairly like this.. it seems Australia always gets screwed over.

Don't blame Nintendo. Blame larger regions. They have more people, so they get the supply, by laws of economics, not anything against those people.

If anything, this is proof Nintendo isn't stockpiling, as this is the worst time to holding back in a place with a holiday shopping season.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I blame the Simpsons for releasing a pregnant chazzwozzer into an ecosystem that can handle it.

Also, that sucks.

Nintendo has been trying to play their conservative game and hint that they might not increase production until the end of the fiscal year, but I hope they're at least laying the groundwork.

I know Christmas is a special time, but when you're halfway through December and you're starting to sell January's stock, you need to kick things up a notch. Production needs to get to 2-2.5 million. If that actually creates a surplus (doubtful), they can drop the price and move those units anyway.

I'm sure that how the business work. They easily double their production and just after that they cut the price with over stock. Genius! I think that Nintendo know what they are doing and even if they don't, I don't think that those kind of idea are susceptible to cross their mind...

Nice attitude you have there. Some of us like to discuss sales and production on this sales site, rather than just kick back and assume the industry makes all the right decisions, which it clearly doesn't.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't increase production by 10-40% (not the 'doubling' you pulled out of your ass) as soon as they can. They can easily cut price by $50 if they have to move a surplus and quickly make that lost profit back with peripherals and software. Heck, if the new buyer just picks up LoZ:TP and SMG, that probably earns Nintendo back that $50.
