Forums - Microsoft - Deadly Premonition, Really?

Ok, I have no idea how to take this on, at first I thought that this is akin to the incident with the three wolf shirt, where a ton of people just invaded the website and gave it a ton of positive ratings, praising it to be the next best thing since sliced bread. Anyhow I stumbled upon this bad boy:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/deadly-premonition?user_review_id=747284

So I thought to myself, wtf 100 from Destructoid? Is this a big "Fuck you" to the gaming journalism, a 20 from IGN in particular or what lol? Then I checked out the Amazon reviews

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rising-Star-Games-Deadly-Premonition/dp/B003VM9DEI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

http://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Premonition-Xbox-360/dp/B002WSR8BC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297205175&sr=8-1

Again, quite alot of positive reviews despite this game being one of the most abysmal games I've seen in a while..

So a quick question, is this title actually any good or have I been trolled? ;_;

Dtoid gave the game a 100 for the lulz... I think. I really don't understand what happened here.

Absolutely going to play it one day. I can't get enough of the Escapist's Unskippable videos for it.

I think that was Jim's way of sticking the finger to the scoring system. But I honestly have no clue whether people actually enjoy this title or it's just a massive troll bandwagon lol.

I actually quite enjoyed it. Always been a huge Twin Peaks and David Lynch fan and that definitely helps in getting into this game.

The game is brilliant, and here is why...

1. Original everything. More original execution and ideas than most games could ever dream of.

2. Story and dialoge is amazingly funny

3. Story is genuenly interesting

4. Game completely ignores current game trends and conventions. This is a good thing.

5. 19.99 price

Other than visuals the game isn't broken in any sense. Its playable, and can be challenging. If the game had a production and budget of Alan Wake, it would be the best game this generation.

As it is right now, it isn't for everyone. Here is a good indication if you will like it or not:

When playing Dead Space 2, your reaction is: "Alright! Its more of the same thing, just with more gore. Sweet!" - you may not like Deadly Premonition.

If when playing Dead Space 2, your reaction is: "Fuck! Its more of the same thing, only with more gore. Fuck!" - you should enjoy Deadly Premonition

Got it, played it for a couple of days, and never touched it again.  The story was good, the investigating was fun, but the game was so bogged down by its old school game designs, voice acting and crap graphics that I just can't bring my self to finish it.  I wanted to like it and at times, I was genuinely impressed--but I tend to like a lot of shitty games.  Unless you are a very forgiving person that can overlook a lot of flaws, I say don't buy it.

Didnt that 1 accoustic guitar melody that keeps repeating over and over resonate in your head enough to make you want to go back to it? :)

Deadly Premonition is the most interesting survial horror title ever made. Excellent story, great dialogue, and the game mechanics work pretty well for the most part. But they made it too long so it gets repetitive, passing time is boring, driving around the city is a chore, and it feels dated. Throughout the game there are little things you can't help but critique.

I definitely think its worth $20 and its a unique experience.
