Forums - Sony Discussion - 1080p not possible due to amount of things in place

Not a single game on PS3 and 360 that actually has decent graphics can run in 1080p natively, the consoles just cant handle it, why should the best looking game on the console be any diffrent? The better looking it is the less chance it will happen...

That's not a fair or a very scientific comparison. First of all your comparing two different games and second of all your only comparing 1280 x 1080 and presumably that's the best your monitor can handle. Try comparing native 1920 x 1080p (which is Full HD) on a TV or PC monitor that can display those resolutions vs 1280 x 720p. It's a big difference in picture quality.

Also the PS3 can do Full HD but only on basic games like Super Stardust. Current gen consoles just don't have the horsepower to display advanced games at Full 1080p.

There is a lot more at play than just 1080p vs 720p resolution which determines visual quality. You can have a game at 1080p natively but if textures are shit, it won't look good. (see Dead Rising 2 console port on PC for example of this).

Things like good frame rate, anti aliasing, good lighting, texture resolution is far more important than getting 1080p seal of approval. 1080p resolution is the last technical aspect a developer should focus on, especially on consoles.

... I thought this was common knowledge.

Bu..bu...but it will look terrible without 1080p!

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Bah, those fools! Teh cell does EVERYTHING!!!!!

On a real side note, I doubt any average gamers would notice the difference between 720P and 1080P whilst in the middle of an epic battle.

"with great power, comes great responsibility."

With all that fancy filtering they use now, I don't think we'd see a significant difference if games were actually 1080p.

I'm more bothered by pop up, loading textures, screen tearing, etc.
