I am confused with what's going on.  Is there going to be a fee to view the full numbers now?

Also, you seem to forget that most users join for the news, reviews, and community. The sales site is still one of the most controversial parts of VGC network. Many people really don't care about sales figures.

20ish users out of the rest the site have posted here... really not a majority leaning in favor for your argument.

I joined for the numbers, and to piss off my old bosses at PSU.com who hates this site. Since then I joined a group of people who helped expand this site past just sales, which had very slow community growth, to what it is with news, reviews, and a much broader community. More people joined for the news and info, and stayed for everything the site has to offer.


No offence but the news reported on VGChartz is almost always hours to days behind the competition. Often I see news here in the forum before its reported on the site. I'm sure most of the users here can't possibly be here for the News. I go to Kotaku, IGN, GoNintendo, Gamasutra for my news and I'm sure I'm not alone. Though I do admit their is sometimes exclusive news here. Like the news from the Chartz.

Also the contriversy about the VGChartz. I see that contriversy most when I post sales info on other sites, it tends to be users who don't think the numbers are realistic. Rarely do I hear complaints about the chartz here on the site.

So I'm still wondering, what will us free consumers be loosing? Thats what everyones upset about.


I remember ioi saying that VGC Pro will have features that the free VGC wouldn't have.


I know that but the news up until now has been that us free users wouldn't be loosing anything. What I want to know is are we going to loose anything as the OP indicates?


Damn, I didn't know that they had put up a section for VGC Pro. The features that are advertised are features that we currently have access to and some new features.

Edit  : According to SSJ2, all the features that we have access to will remain free.



Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

No, and no. I just know what the original plan was that was announced and iscussed on these forums back a year or so ago. It wasn't a secret staff meeting or anything.

Its kind of rediculous they would remove this many features from us.

all features currently free will be free, more advanced and technical data won't be. Think NPD Group without the douchebaggery and free information.

So why has a lot of the data been taken away from the weekly charts?  No more filtering by platform or publisher, only a top 40 list, only showing the top 5 publishers, etc.  Or do you mean we can still see the sales data we just have to go to each individual game and pick out the week on the line graph?

Also here's another vote for the sales being the distinguishing feature on this site.  No offense to the writers, but the news and reviews are nothing special compared to the hundreds of other video game sites out there.

edit: you know its a sort of strange feeling. I´ve come here since late 2007, subscribed late 2008 and have a a very low post count.

You forget why its a business.

Without access to sales data, companies will make crappier games that sell poorly, and close up shop. People have to have a profit motive to do things in life. NPD charges $100,000 per year for their data. VGC can likely expand and make everything better by adding more professional tools for developers/publishers/ect.

And if you really, really hate VGC, then feel free to make your own game charts website, work 40-50hrs a week, and then decide if its worth it to do it for free.

 

Do I like this change to a more paid format? No. I've been a member from almost day-1 (look at my ID). But there's a reason its here. Besides, getting a top-40 weekly is better than anything NPD, EEDAR, or any other company will give you.

ok so I checked this out

and I only seem to be able to see portion of sales data..so no this is not keeping the stuff we had for free, free. Thisi s more like billboard charts (they changed I think tho :S not sure) where in some charts you only get up to Top20 but not the rest until you pay for it

frankly I think this is rediculous if true. We get NA data from NPD, we get numbers from MC, Famitsu for Japan..we get various data from Europe and other regions periodically too..all for free. I don't think VGC has proved itself enough to be able to make a move like this with all the adjustments they have to do as it's clear they depend on other sources as well. Which is not a bad thing but how does this warrant taking away features from members is baffling to me and I'm quite upset about this. VGC will not be VGC if this is true.

and don't tell me about gaming news either....
