Forums - Nintendo - OMG Virtual Console gets its first online multiplayer enabled game!

Puyo Puyo's VCA version will have online play.

Sega has dubbed today, February 4, Puyo Puyo day. It's a pun.

To commemorate the big day, Sega made all sorts of Puyo Puyo related announcements. Most notable is the announcement of a Wii Virtual Console Arcade release for the classic 1992 Puyo Puyo arcade game.

The big deal with this particular Virtual Console release is that it will support Wi-Fi competitive play. Players will be able to battle one-another in online matches. As Inside Games notes, this is the first Virtual Console game to have Wi-Fi support.

The VCA version of Puyo Puyo will be released this Spring, priced 800 Wii Points.

The other Puyo Puyo announcements for the day included a character illustration contest, to be held at the Nico Nico Seiga image sharing site, and an original goods drawing.

All I can say is that I want Square-Enix to translate Seiken Densetsu 3, add online multiplayer for friends with voice chat and to release it at the next Hanobi festival in Europe.

Man, did we have to wait for something like this and what makes it worse(or better in your point of view) is that a non-Nintendo company is moving this forward! :s

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

My understanding is that all VC titles were to be as close to the original content as possible.  Adding Wi-Fi that was never part of the original content isn't supposed to be allowed.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Makes sense, given that the VC Arcade titles are individually emulated, so there's more leeway for stuff. I believe Hang-On had tilt controls as well

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

'bout time, can't let the emulators have all the fun!

Well Nintendo has been clear they want customers to take to online more, with their work on the 3DS so it's likely they allowed this on the Wii to facilitate it on that system.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'm only going to be excited when this is enabled for N64 titles.

won't happen. The N64 titles where it would be worth anything have mostly been released already (or cannot be released due to Rare), and N64 titles are batch-emulated, unlike Arcade titles which are done on a game-by-game basis

I've repeatedly heard it said that the VC Arcade was going to be treated differently in this regard.  That is why, for example, Space Harrier permits you to use the Wii Pointer when no other VC game does.

Sad but true. Oh well. Hopefully they can vastly improve for next gen.
