DS will pass PS2 around the middle of this year in shipments but in the long run they'll both end relatively close to each other. PS2 will probably crawl to 160 million or so eventually. DS seems to be dropping off somewhat steeply now that 3DS is nearly here. It'll probably end around 165-170 million.

according to kotaku..nice source,ps2 actually shipped 155 million units..that doesnt mean it sold 155 million units..shipped n sold are 2 different things honey..numbers of ps2 sold is hard to find coz different sources put up different numbers of ps2 sold..some say its 146 million units sold n other sales tracking sites say its 148 million units sold..last i check NPD says ps2 have sold 148 million units worldwide..so i would go wit NPD over kotaku or sony..heck it was sony themselves that say they have sold 151 million units of ps2..ummm,why did sony release ps2 numbers instead of ps3,its probly coz the DS wit 145 million units almost catch up to ps2 148 million units sold..also,theres hardly any1 tracking ps2 sales right now coz its low price..only sony keeps tracking n exaggerate ps2 numbers coz ps3 aint working n DS almost catch up on ps2..again..shipped n sold are 2 different things n never trust numbers from sony,nintendo or microsoft..if they say they sold million of copies..truth is they only sold 80%..business are like that..lets wait for NPD or other reliable source about ps2 151 million units sold or shipped..than lets start celebrating..but source from sony..come on..NPD says its 148 million units,i bet if DS sold 148 million units..sony would say ps2 have sold 156 million units..thats business but bullshit.

It's gonna be fun to watch, the only card that PS2 might have left is that when Sony announces discontinuance, it might get a small boost.  Nintendo won't get the benefit of these "other" markets, so you never know! lol

After much research I've found why PS2 figures are at 149.7m by my tally vs. the 150.2m I seemed to get earlier. In short, Sony messed up:

All the research is linked for those curious. Note Sony's 2008 Fiscal Year ends March 2009, so Q3 FY 2008 is Oct-Dec 2009 and so on. The 2.1m at the bottom is for Oct-Dec 2010.

* Dec 2008 Figures: 136.3m 1.4m 1.6m 1.9m 2.1m 1.7m 1.6m 1.5m 2.1m = 150.2m as of Dec 2010

*  June 2009 Figures: 138.8m 1.9m 2.1m 1.7m 1.6m 1.5m 2.1m = 149.7m

Anyway, PS2 is over 150m shipped as of Jan 2011 - article is up.

PS2 is still selling?? Wow! How many years has it been out? This just shows not everyone cares about graphics!!
