I was hoping for better sales, and it seemed retailers were right, since 120k for the first shiptment was close to selling out. Though this numbers are great for a new IP in my opinion, those are horrible numbers for any chance of localization that we might have :(

Technically those should be first day shipments, if any of those games received further shipments later in the week then first week shipments will be higher.

Every Friday morning Famitsu releases numbers for new releases including sell though % , that's what these numbers are. 99% they are first day numbers, except for when a game releases earlier than Thursday, then they are total sales through Thursday. You can even see the date of the Famitsu release is 11am Friday 28th.

We used to get these leaked every week, but Famitsu stopped that and we don't see them too often anymore.

No it isn't. It's a light novel that was adapted into an anime. This anime is popular, but it's DVD and BluRay sales weren't very high. The very high sales of the game are even more surprising consider that.

I guess we are both ignorant because there's also a manga, not just anime.

Yes, they began making  a manga as well, but the source material is a light novel. The game came about from the anime. The manga has zero influence on the game at all (especially as it sold terribly).

But you said that it wasn't a manga. And as far as I know the manga have more similarities with the light novel than the anime (Not sure about this, but I think it has a different ending, good or bad ending  meh I dont really know about that and I dont care either). The true is that it is a manga, an anime and a light novel. You should've said  that it is based on the anime instead of the manga or light novel and not that it isn't a manga

I'm more left on wondering what games the PS3 buyers are buying. This has been a trend lately- the system sells well, but few games chart in the top 20. Contrasting this with 4 games for the 360 in the top 20 (is that a record for Japan?), and the system barely budges upward.

You always refer to an intellectual property from its source material (or at least it's most popular). The manga for this game might as well not exist. It's just any other movie that gets a side comic, etc. You wouldn't say that Twilight is a manga despite having such. Whenever referring the series, you always point to the books. Same with Harry Potter.
