I rented Black Ops today for the Wii, despite the fact that I have it for the 360, to see how it is and what the differences are between the different versions.  I was hoping to play a few rounds of multiplayer online before I have to get ready for work but for some reason all it's doing is saying "Please Wait"!  Now because of the long wait I don't have the time and won't be able to play anything!  This is very fustrating and I am kinda regretting renting this game!  Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me? 

I haven't used my Wii to go online since i finished up brawl simply because it is unreliable even compared to PSN which has its own problems.

That's understanbable.  However, I played Goldeneye 007 and World at War online this past weekend and I had no problems getting online to play matches.

Maybe one or more servers were offline at the moment you tried to logon, It happened me once when trying to play goldeneye but after a few hours everything was working fine.

the game needs to dl a mandatory update b4 you can play online.  recently bought a 2nd wii just so my wife could play blk ops and we wouldnt have to take turns anymore, and we had an issue setting it up the first time.  for some reason the update wouldnt pop up.  It just kept saying loading and the circle would spin.

what i did was instead of choosing multiplayer, i then went into the online zombies mode and it will tell you ya need the update and automatically boot you to the online multiplayer screen and receive the update.  it actually took two tries to get the update to run, but after that I've had zero problems.

for some reason it seems as if you are setting up the multiplayer since the original patch update...it doesn't want to find the update easily.  my original wii had no problem doing the original update when it released but the new one had a problem finding the update after the 2nd pacth had already been released.

gl, i hope that going into the online zombie mode will trigger the patch dl for you liek it did for me.

You should try making a different profile, that usually works!

Also, anyone know if/when the new Zombies map(s) are out on Wii version?

I had the problem when it first came out where  created a second profile, but ever since the patches came I have not had a single problem. I usually don't have any issues with online gaming with Wii. Some people report some crazy problems or issues that I never seem to get, maybe because I use a wired connection most of the time. I never got the lag on Brawl people went nuts about either.

I only had those problems on day one after I got the game at midnight launch. After the patches though, I had no problems. The major problem I had with multiplayer was that it took a long time to get started.
