Do you guys really get excited about superbowl ads? I really don't get why people buy into the hype over them. The first thing I do when a commerical comes on is turn the channel.

well if they get a superbowl add for killzone 3 that would be a lot better than an uncharted 3 add
i think they should advertise uncharted 3 more than they did with uncharted 2 so it can get a 2 million launch!
if the advertising isn't great it's not gonna get over 1.2-1.5 million launch

Actually there was one... it was short, but pretty decent. IMO it probably helps a bit, but the cost is simply massive to justify it for most games :|

The only real reason anyone should care to put an ad in the superbowl is if it is aimed at the average consumer and it is unique. The only ads that seem to really pay off are the ones that the media jumps on board and makes them go viral. thus paying off big time in getting any real awareness.

I'm not sure what you're doing during the Super Bowl, but the Super Bowl is one of the few times that people don't dvr AND watch all the commercials since most people watch the Super Bowl in a group setting.

Yeah, there definitely wasn't.
And for Uncharted 3, why air an ad for a game that's still nine months away? It'd be a total waste of money. I could see them possibly doing an ad for Killzone 3, though, but since even God of War III didn't get that honor, I get the feeling SCEA just doesn't feel it's worth the investment.

Really? I heard like $50m, my bad! |
you can calculate it urself
a game costs $60 and even if it sells just 1m then that is $60m in revenue and uncharted sold way more than 1m
I don't think we'll see one this year.
EA did one for Dante's Inferno last year and that game didn't exactly do gangbusters.

PS3 and its multiplat games outsell the Xbox360 everywhere except here in the United States. A super bowl commercial would go a long way to get into the mainstream in the US. The long theatrical Mass Effect 2 commerical during the NFC championship Saints-Vikings game last year was phenomenal. |
Point milking ftw
TV commercials that was 9 months away from release? It would be a waste.
