Short synopsis: DS broke its own 1-week sales record it set last week by selling over 210k in the UK this week. The Wii sold "over 100k" this week in the UK, so Ioi's analysis is amazingly accurate.

DS Smashes UK Hardware Record

Sells over 200,000 last week, whilst Wii passes Xbox 360’s UK installed base

It seems that the only thing pegging back Nintendo’s remarkable sales achievements at the moment is its ability to get hardware on the High Street – but that hasn’t stopped the DS Lite smashing the UK weekly hardware sales record that it had set only the week before.

Last week Nintendo’s handheld sold 212,584 units – a fair chunk more than the previous weeks sales record of 191,104, according to sales data from UK stats body ChartTrack.

Until now the PS2 had been the long-standing record holder, following the 184,360 units it sold in Christmas week in 2001.

Nintendo UK's general manager David Yarnton stated: “With its wide appeal and unique software, Nintendo DS continues to expand the gaming audience and continues to appeal to everyone.

Apparently, the French Television station Canal+ has reported that the Wii broke records for a home console last week in France, with sales of over 130k last week. I don't have a link to that and I have no idea if it's official, but it's strong evidence that Ioi is not overtracking the Wii in the EU, at least. Have no clue about PS3/360, though.

No need for re-calculations, I think. I would say it's safe to assume that Ioi's estimations are very spot on for the Wii in the EU, however, which is impressive, considering it's the best selling home console in the highest-demand period of the year. Tracking stuff at this point in the year must be crazy, so kudos to him.

I also just noticed something else: the news says that the Xbox360 was surpassed in the UK by the Wii LTD this week -- and that is precisely what Ioi's figures show, too.

ioi was spot on with the DS in England, he was 208, they say 212... I'd that is spot on....
