Forums - Nintendo - Pokemon 3DS and Pokemon Wii confirmed!

Nintendo has confirmed that it is working on a new Pokemon 3DS product.

Satoru Iwata announced the news to investors in Japan yesterday, saying "We are also developing Pokémon related products on the Wii and 3DS."

However, he had no details to share and added "We will gradually over time inform you of them."

Many were surprised to learn that Pokémon Black & White would be released on the current DS rather than 3DS as Nintendo has never before released two generations of Pokémon games on one console.

Yet it's a decision that has since proved to be correct with Pokémon Black & White shifting five million copiessince they were released in Japan in September. The games will be released in the UK on 4 March and special Pokémon Black & White DSi consoles will be available.

As for the Wii game, Nintendo hasn't released a Pokémon Wii game since PokéPark. Many fans will be hoping for a fully-fledged Pokémon RPG on Wii this time. Will it happen?

Great news! However, I have a feeling looking at the language used in the article it could be little more than a spin-off...

I hope I'm wrong. A fully 3D pokemon game, AND a proper Wii RPG for the series will be a pleasant treat. I expect to see more at E3. What about you?

great!

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

If it is what i hope it is on the WII, then i'm buying a WII again. But, i doubt it.

I hope that this is where the "generational" Pokemon games go from sprites to polygons. 3DS has some great specs under the hood, and hopefully the Pokemon team will take advantage of it. That goes with the Pokemon's noises too, it's time for them to get the anime treatment.

I'll bet anyone that it's a Genius Sonority spinoff.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 were both on GB sans Crystal.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I agree. What better time to jump on the 3D bandwagon eh?

Also, RadiantShadow92, what do you reckon it'll be for reference? I'm intrigued now!

Though 2 was a Color game first, just one of the GBC games that was cross compatible (like Wario Land 2, though i would also consider that a GBC game)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think so too, and I wish it wasn't. I think a real Pokemon RPG for the Wii would sell a lot more than Colosseum and certainly more than Battle Revolution which was a terrible game.

I have confidence that Genius Sonority can make a decent game when they're not rushed (See Battle Revolution.)  That said, I have a feeling that this is going to be a Colosseum/Battle Revolution clone that's compatible with Black and White.

Honestly I know why GameFreak developed Black and White for DS instead of 3DS. The team is ill-equiped to do 3D the staff would need to be trained in 3D. Thus they used sprites like they always have, they are a great 2D company but they lack the experiance with 3D and the educated staff to do anything other then a DS game.

Remember Brownie Brown or how about Sakamoto's team, they were trained and specialize in 2D games. Both teams have to work with more experianced teams to develop 3D titles. Nintendo has several 2D only teams and that is a major disadvantage with 2D aging.

My bet is Nintendo will take staff from Genius Sonority and Pokemon company and ask that they be brought into GameFreak. If GameFreak doesn't hire from outside it may send staff to be trained in 3D, or maybe the Pokemon game on 3DS will be just like Black and White 3Desque enviroments made of sprites.

As for the anime sounds over the growls. I don't think GameFreak wanted the Pokemon to all speak their names. Pikachu saying "Pika Pika" was probably not their intentions. Note Nintendo themselves did not make the anime or the growls. I bet GameFreak wants to stick to their origional vision which was to have unique growls and not name calling.
