Forums - Sony - Sony says NGP will be 'afordable', wont cost 599$ Wi-Fi only version coming

Personally I think the Wifi only model will probably be about 399$ if it has all the other features except 3G. The 3G version selling for 450$. They said it would be higher then 3DS and 3DS is 300$ in Japan and parts of europe. So I'd say 400$ is probably a safe bet. Also the high def touch screen, the two camera's and everything else this thing can't be much cheaper then 400$ unless Sony will take a hit on every unit sold as they did with PS3.

I mean seriously the PS3 still sells at 300CDN new. So make the 160-gig hard drive a 16-Gig hard drive and add the HD screen and track pad and everything else. It can't be cheaper then 399$ Then add 3G and such and you've got at least 450$.

Plus given people are buying I-Pads for higher , 450$ would be an afforable handheld.

Just another consideration, the PSP was sold as a portable PS2 and launched for $250 when the PS2 was being sold at $150; being that the NGP is being sold as a portable PS3 and the PS3 currently costs $300, I think that anyone expecting the NGP to launch at $300 or less is not being particularly realistic.

Well...I look at this amazing device, NGP, and the closest thing I can see to compare it to are Smart Phones.  Now, MOST unlocked Smartphones go for around $599-$699, so I’m not sure how much cheaper Sony can get than that, and have a sound strategy to breakeven in a reasonable amount of time.  Maybe $499, but any lower than that, and SCE will be DEEP in the red again, which will put them a precarious situation, since M$ and Nintendo are going to be launching new console in the near future (regardless of what they say.)  Have 2 platforms slamming you into the red is probably going to make Sony shareholders scream for austerity quickly!

What 2 platforms?

Gameboy Color and Atari 2600. They slam Sony into the red.

simple you can buy the 3G with an Data plan with your telco which depend on the plan will have an range of contacts and pricing for the device like the ipad. Then you will have your Wifi only one sold at game retailers and you out right unlocked 3G one which will be the most expensive but you can probably get an pre paid plan or something like that for it.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

Since I was referring to the future...that would mean the NGP and the eventual PS4...see?

For whom?

For everybody. Both gamers and Sony.

Doesn't the price of 3G depend on where you live? Like on BlackBerries where I live, it is like DHS 60 ($16.48) or so per month, depending on what you want to access and the BB service, etc. I'm unsure...
