Have you tried Zack and Wiki, Mummelmann?

 Nope, anything like Banjo Kazooie or Tak? Sounds like a sleeper hit, poor sales in Japan but high anticipation in Others/NA. When the library thickens, I'll probably give Wii a chance and buy it. SMG, MP3, MK and Zelda are enough of an excuse for me... Maybe there'll be an FF spin-off or two worth getting as well.

My first priority is a PS3, but I'll most likely end up buying a Wii and new parts for my PC as well, and then sit around for months and mope with no cash...

Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

@ Avinash_Tyagi

The same thing was said about the NES when it was first launched, how it was a toy, how gaming PCs could do stuff better and bigger

Well the PC wasn't much to write home about back then (when the NES launched) with regard to gaming potential, but yes it was a toy likewise was the coleco vision I owned as a small kid playing Donkey Kong. I think a lot of people grew up with the NES.

Don't look at this as being something bad, the PS2 today is a cheap toy as well. Games and gamers have matured a lot (average age of gamers).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Yeah but there were "mature" gamers back then as well, didn't hurt the NES's sales, NES had deep games and so does Wii, because the NES had wide appeal it succeeded, it appealed to pretty much everyone just like Wii is doing now

@MikeB

Did I seriously see you explain that you don't believe graphics power is what makes good games? And then slam the Wii for being a cheap system and not having the specs to be able to do good games?

Mummelmann, if you give something that actually shows why Wii sales will slow down then maybe you won't have people disagreeing with you, so far your arguments are its too casual, people won't keep playing it, but like I said in another thread, this doesn't stop gamers from buying it, just because there is Wii fit doesn't get rid of Mario Galaxy, just because the controls are more pick up and play doesn't stop it from having the best FPS controls outside of Keyboard and Mouse.

Nintedo is targeting indifference to gaming as their enemy, but that doesn't mean those who like gaming can't play, there are still games aimed at them, like Metroid, defintely not aimed at causal

 But if machines like the Wii really ARE the future, we'll see more casual games and less hardcore, which is my prime concern. I want Gran Turismo, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Half-Life and my other favourite franchises to live on! I'm just afraid that the chase after profits will deflate the industry's will to cater to "real" gamers, it's already happening to the music and the movie industry! Diversity is good imo, I say let it live!

This is just like ckmlb's old arguement that Nintendo is doing less for the hardcore.  And then he put up numbers showing how many hardcore games Nintendo released each year and casual games.  And he defeated his own arguement.  Showing that Nintendo consistently is releasing the same amount of hardcore games, but the causual games were increasing.  The hardcore is not losing anything, the casual market is expanding.

I honestly have to say that after this holiday season, the Wii will not see HUGE numbers like it has been seeing.
The PS3 has some HUGE games for 2008 and I honestly believe it will be the year PS3 will be dominant. It will be catching up and I could easily see 12-14 million by the end of the first half of the new year.
Gran Turismo 5, GTA4, Killzone 2 and oh yeah...MGS4 should all help out nicely. The PS3 will finally have those A+++ titles.

Final Fantasy XIII and FFvXIII will be HUGE but who knows really when those games are coming out. Square seems to be taking their sweet time with those and I have a feeling it will be worth the wait.

End of Year predictions:

Wii | 17.5 million ----> 19.20 million as of new year

X360 | 16 million ----> 16.02 million as of new year

PS3 | 8.7 million -----> 8.86 million as of new year

DAMNN I really underestimated the freaking Wii - Sheaaat!

Lifetime Sales

Wii | 60-80 million

X360 | 50-60 million

PS3 | 100+ million (I believe the PS3 will still be around when other NEW consoles arrive...there won't be a PS4 for quite some time.)

The Wii is easier to develop for to some extend (especially if you are familiar with the GameCube dev tools), but to push the system as far as Mario Galaxy does will cost developers more, lots of tweaking, finding ways around trade-offs and optimising, IMO devs can yield better and quicker results with fewer trade-offs on the 360 or PS3, especially if you use existing middleware like the Unreal engine.

Oh my god, tweaking, trade-offs and optimising! Someone call the police, developers never had to do that before.

HINT: Actually, tweaking, trade-offs and optimising are the daily meal for any engine developer.

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

The Wii has 3 things that its competitors don't have going into 2008:

1) Ridiculous sales momentum after the most successful first 14 months in gaming history ever.

2) 14 months straight of amazing publicity, as opposed to the billion dollar RROD fiasco or the flopping of every PS3 exclusive. The Wii is loved by everybody from Dr. Phil to Stephen Colbert. (Wii Fit is about to jumpstart the non-gaming press all over again.)

3) The highest-rated game of 2007 (or this entire generation so far, or in over a decade).

So how is the bubble supposed to be bursting again? It's not a bubble. It's the fucking BLOB. And it's going to keep growing and sucking up everything in the universe. At this point the only way Nintendo could stop selling Wiis is if they stopped making them. Good luck with that haters.
