Forums - Gaming - Well, is it 3D vs 3G then?

The ever evolving handheld landscape will be visited by two meteors this year. Will the fight for the market by these two familiar rivals be plagued with arguments of 3D vs 3G? What are your thoughts? Will nintendo null the arguments by announcing a 3G 3DS in a year or will Sony someday reveal the "NGP" to be compatible with Sony 3d glasses? Feel free to discuss if there is a bigger contrast to be had.

Are you joking? 3G is one of the minor feature of the new psp xD the main ones are the high presition touch screen on front pressure touch pad on back 5 inch OLED screen and insane amounts of power. Thats what the psp2 is about not 3g xD

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

Do we know if it'll be high-grade 3G (a la Smartphones) or low-grade 3G (a la Kindle), or if it'll be high grade 3G that's free for consumers but subsidized by Sony? That could make a huge difference one way or another

As it is, content will decide over features as it always has, but it'll be interesting to see exactly what sort of 3G the NGP touts

It won't be free, Sony have said so.

ALSO, it will not be in every PSP 2, it is just a minor feature, mostly used for downloading updates and minor PSN features rather than actual online gaming

PSP2's main draw is it's power, screens and dual analogue

Anyone with a shed of sanity understands that 3DS is going to outsell the NGP. NGP can throw whatever it wants at 3DS and it won't sell as well because nintendo portable games > everyone elses combined

However I don't care about sales and can't deny the fact that NGP is hella cool spec wise... does it run Linux? :)

It's more like 3D VS HD

In that case Sony's already lost. They've already established that 3D > HD in their own TV pricing structures :P

i think it's more like 3D Vs proper handheld gaming.

All fair points so far. Will 3d or 3g be one of the lead questions going forward or is there something bigger to discuss?

I think that 3G is out of equation.

It is more 3D vs raw power HD

I came into the thread to post this

What i don't get is looking at those amazing specs how it is ONLY 3G.

Its like saying the PS3 only accepts dial up.  Where the hell is 4G.  I know 4G isn't as wide spread yet, but still should be uses 4G if available and 3G if not.

Oh and not to mention how will LAG be when using 3G.  Looking up stuff on internet or youtube videos is one thing, but playing a game on 3G.  Call me skeptical, especially ps3 basically games.

Oh you're definitely going to have to explain that one

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo was toying with 3G for 3DS (Iwata even talked about it publicly over a year ago), but the advantages (always online) didn't seem to outweigh the drawbacks (subscription, latency, battery drain) from their perspective.  I think SpotPass is a bit of a middleground for what they wanted out of 3G.

Not all NGP models will be 3G capable either.

I do sort of see 3G (or hopefully 4G) being one of the components built into a 3DS refresh in 2 years or so.  Hopefully OLED as well, since that should help bump up the battery life.

I am not that impressed because I've already tried online game with 3G:

Same thing as being online, you just can be online everywhere. Too bad the games were PSone half assed ports and uninsteresting games.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3DS Lite with 3G, and NGP Slim with 3D (if it is possible to do so on a touch screen)
