Forums - Sony - PS3 System Software Update (v3.56)... just a security patch.

We've gotten so many of these lately... I hate that SONY has to focus more on this crap now...

Yea, I'm pretty sure it was basically a waste of time.  Once the hackers figured out how to crack the prior code, it will only be a matter of days, if not hours before they crack this one as well.

And them f=/%iNG hackers think they are real gamers!!!?

They are ruining my life the assholes.

All I know is 3.56 borked my shit. I don't do custom firmwares or hacks or any of that shit. It refuses to finish installing, sitting at 99% for hours and hours. Rebooting just sends it straight back into installing, which reaches 99% and stalls. I shoulda downloaded 3.55 when I had to chance so I could downgrade using recovery mode, then at least id be able to watch movies.

You should sue Sony!  On another note, I hope this happens to everybody who was fucking with stuff on ps3.

Bugger off. I never screwed around with my PS3.

Sony's strategy was to scare the hackers to make time until the court case is over and they find a solution. I'm positive they'll find one.

I have confirmed the issue that is borking some peoples PS3s, despite them not 'hacking' or otherwise doing things to their PS3 that is against the 'rules'. 3.56 is rejecting upgraded hard drives. I don't think all of them as some people say they upgraded to 3.56 and were still able to swap another hard drive in.

However, many people who previously were using an upgraded drive or are trying to upgrade their drive while using 3.56 are finding no success.

All said and done my PS3 works again, sans most of my save data as I had to revert to the stock 80GB hard drive that came with my phat PS3. My 640GB drive is now useless.

So if you try putting in your 640gb after updating by flash drive or something, it doesn't work?  I'm sure Sony will make a fix if that's the case.

WTF? There's no way that I'd be able to do with just 80GB by the end of this gen...
