Any thoughts?

Maybe they just picked the games they enjoyed the most.

Is that really so bad?

Well yeah, then that's not really "Best 10 games of the year." That's "You're favorite 10 games of the year." "Best games of the Year" are supposed to show you can look outside of your self. For example i'm not a fan of Halo games. It would still be on my "Best Games of the Year" list... and quite high.

What would the point of all 10 editors doing their own 10 best games list be if they were all supposed to be the same? Of course they were supposed to be subjective personal 10 best games lists.

Stof, that was his point... Their subjective personal list were Anti- Wii.   They obviosly don't like the Wii. But what I think is funny is that the people who would read a gaming mag know alot about games and are prolly 360ers or PS3ers. The Casuals could give a crap about that mag.

Right. And my point is what does that matter? Different Editors work on different departments. If they're not working on reviewing Wii material, then what does it matter if they've even played a Wii or not?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

How many Nintendo ads is there in the magazine? I have never seen this magazine before.

I think we the game overload right now ... I wouldn't be surprised if the reviewers were the only ones who played it.

Anyways, I don't really care for GI reviews. I hate the style and I think they can be a little too generous with their scores.

Wii doesn't cater to the hardcore, they don't like that

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Wow people are way to defensive here.

Yes they can make their own lists and that is fine. But it does show a clear bias against games that are clearly deserving based on composite reviews. Both of these things can be true guys. These aren't mutually exclusive concepts.

Sorry, but the fact is that any top 10 list that doesn't include SMG is a list by a person who has a bias against Wii games or at least platformers. Its not even a matter of debate, it just is ...

Bias: a particular tendency or inclination, esp. one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question; prejudice.

Does anyone disagree that based on objective consideration SMG would deserve a spot in the top 10? Then any list that doesn't contain it is by definition biased against it. Does it mean their list is illegitimate? No, a list of personal preferences is supposed to contain personal bias. But it does mean they have a bias.

Its the same fear of the Wii that many hardcore have, the concern that by bringing in the nongamers it is killing their hobby, that makes them biased against the system

That doesn't really have anything to do with the publication's bias. Different editors work in different departments. The fact that they don't care about Wii games is irrelevant because they're most likely not working on Wii game reviews.

Yeah, but still -- "this year saw some outstanding games help Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo jockey for position in the ongoing console war." Unless "jockeying for position" is supposed to mean in Nintendo's case "jockeying for total domination instead of regular domination", that sounds like biased commentary.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

To be clear I don't see enough reason to justify a conspiracy theory, but the fact is that reviewers are going to have a personal bias and if you ask for a list from one person and the 2nd highest rated game of all time is not on their top 10 list then by definition there exists a bias.

Look at this from any angle of the word bias and you will find textbook, undeniable, beyond question...that this is a personal bias.

But it is to be expected given the way the lists were made, and it isn't shocking, it isn't a scandal, and it isn't that big of a deal imo.

They don't have to be exactly the same but they should still show some "loooking outside of yourself." It's basically what you are supposed to do in an industry when you have a magazine like that. I mean it's like Game reviews. You are reviewing the game. You arn't saying how much YOU enjoyed it. It's how much you think other people will enjoy it. I don't think it's a conspiracy or something silly like that. It's just poor form and unproffesional. It's like if someone asked you "Who were the biggest bands of 2007". Would you list off your favorite bands? Or would you list off the bands you heard the most on the radio and that won awards?
