Dead space games are about as scary as your mom walking in on you while your back is turned to the door, penis through the boxer hole, head phones on, in front of the computer and you realize what's about to happen.

Your heart stops.

haha... I disagree. What you describe is much scarier.

I think F.E.A.R 1 is scarier than a lot of Hollywood 'horror' movies

Imo no , i still can´t watch the exorcist  in my age lol and silent hill is scarier than dead space !!!

Go download the Amnesia: The Dark Descent demo and play it at night, with no lights on, and with headphones on. If you don't get freaked out I'd be shocked.

Dead space games are about as scary as your mom sneaking in to your bedroom while you sleep and bashing pots and pans next to your head. Sure you'll get a jolt a few times, but it will get old, tired and FRUSTRATING really fast.

Also the fact you don't give a shit what happens to the characters in Dead Space, and you have save points and unlimited continues kills any scares or weight the game has.

If they were talking about Silent Hill 2 per say...there could be a good debate for this.

I'm playing Dead Space 2 right now and I can tell you its FAR scarier than Silent Hill 2 ever was.

And don't give a shit what happens to the characters in Dead Space?  Are you kidding me?  Isaac Clark is a FAR more compelling character than pretty much any horror game I can think of.

Its funny you even bring Silent Hill up to be honest THOSE are games whose characters you don't give a shit about, talk about generic.

haha...I guess best defence is a good offence even if its completely unfounded.

I respect your opinion on this but majoity would disagree about silent hill 2. There is a reason why it is brought up to this day as a horror masterpiece and benchmark.

From Wikipedia -

"Silent Hill 2 appeared on several critics' lists for its story and use of metaphors, psychological horror, and taboo topics. It ranked 1st on X-Play's list of the "Scariest Games of All Time" in 2006.[73] IGN listed it as an Editor's Choice,[6] one of the five best horror video games created after 2000 in 2009,[74] and one of the twentieth greatest PlayStation 2 game of all time.[75] Additionally in 2010, IGN ranked it as 54th in its "Top 100 PS2 games".[76] In 2008, GamesRadar placed it on its list of the fifteen "Best Videogame Stories Ever", describing it as "a punishing tale not easily matched".[77] In 2009, Destructoid ranked it fifteenth in its list of the "Top 50 Videogames of the Decade", noting that it "is most memorable for its introduction of iconic video game character Pyramid Head".[78] That same year, Wired.com listed it as the eleventh most influential game of the decade for its emphasis on psychological horror and exploration of taboo topics such as incest and domestic abuse, rather than gore.[79]"

I haven't played dead space 2 and was refering to part 1... But if my instincts are correct, part 2 looks like more of the same.

I guess it depends what scares you. I personally find it offensive that something so ham fisted, loud and abnoxious like dead space can be even considered horror.

I actually agree with you. I wasn't scared by Dead Space at all and games like it (looks at RE)

Did you think A: DD was scary?

I have yet to play it... I was ready to play it 3 months ago but then I read it doesn't do 3 monitor surround very well so I got upset. then I got even more upset when I heard it doesn't work very well with Nvidia 3D vision...

Im still gonna play it though...too much praise to pass it by.

Dead Space is not scary, its just cheap enemies popping in front of you out of nowhere, and some almost immortal enemies chasing you for life.

re4 on gcn with surround sound in the middle of the night. scary as fuck. especially when las plagas show up for the first time.

Do I know you?

Haha it's just that my friend one time said the exact same thing. He said playing RE4 with surround sound will no light is just scary as fuck.

Video games can be slightly scarier than movies. I can't remember being scared of any movie in my last 10 years. Meanwhile some games have scared me. Heretic back in 1995 was probably the scariest. Even in Oblivion in some of the dungeons I was scared lol.
