Actually have they ever shown any trailer or screenshots  of DQ X ? That's extremly strange behaviour for a game that could arrive in 2011. I consider this silence a sign that it is developed for yet not annouced console (read Wii2). If they were aiming at 3ds they would say so already

No screens or even a title yet.  Literally all we know about DQX is that is coming for Wii. :/

In recent interviews though, Horii just reconfirmed more DQ games are coming to Wii and that's what they're now focusing on, which is encouraging.  DQX is the big one, but even a DQVII remake would be a surefire million seller for Wii, and might help the struggling hardware sales.

Having games revealed and released the same year isn't really anything new though, even for Square Enix.  Look at FFXIII-2, that game was just announced, shown and it's releasing this holiday.  Or even the last Wii Dragon Quest title (Monster Battle Road Victory), it was announced less than six months before it hit shelves.  DQVI DS was also a no show for years, and then suddenly had media and a release date four months later.

Has the Wii actually won a week yet this Year?

Well when did they show the first footage/screens of DQ IX and how long did it take before it released after  those screens/footage..?

Over two years.  But DQIX also kept getting delayed.  Though it has been over two years since the DQX announcement, so it could also be in development hell.

True, its possible it will be announced and will be released relatively quickly. i'm concerned about a Wii only release however, because the sales of The Last Story only recently. and DQ8 was released on PS2, so i think its possible for a multiplatform release, not to mention SEs financial woes, so i think a multiplatform release could be on the cards.

although, i would be quite interested in seeing whats next for the series, because DQ8 was a very good game. and there seems to be small fanbase in the west that will grow with subsequent installments imo.

Update!!!!!? (And check adjustments)

Updated with today Japan numbers.

As for adjustments it seems PS3 was increased by around 3k while wii was reduced by around 1k

I'm keeping yearly totals up to date since they are taken from yearly totals page.

I haven't decided what to do with single weeks.

The Last Story isn't a good indicator for DQX's potential on Wii.  A better comparison would be NSMB Wii, given Dragon Quest has a similar "all segments" sort of pull in terms of audience.  It's in a different genre than Mario, but it's brand power is more comparable to Mario than it is any RPG on Wii.  If DQX comes out on Wii, it's going to sell 3-4m in Japan guaranteed.  There won't be any multiplatform release either, that's just not how Horii rolls... and unlike Kitase/Nomura, Wada can't really overrule him.  It's going to be on Wii, or on something else (ie: 3DS), but not both.

Nintendo has also seemingly grown the western fanbase for DQ pretty significantly with their handling of DQIX.  They're pretty much taking over western stewardship for the series, so if DQX's still a Wii game, I'd expect it to do pretty well outside Japan too (ie: a million plus).

MC numbers are up, looks like another victory for the PS3. I wonder when it will be the first time Wii outsells the PS3 this year.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Wii Pricecut week, or if by some miracle Dragon Quest X releases...

That would be terrible for Nintendo. Seriously I do wonder how many times Wii will be able to outsell PS3 in Japan this year. Outside the Holidays it's not looking likely anymore
